Our most important requirement is that you copy and paste a Filevine API Key and Key Secret into the Filevine API Credentials, you will do this in your ADMIN SETTINGS blade on the left-hand side.

If you already have this access, skip to the configuration section.

Setting up your Filevine API Portal

Your API portal is accessed by an Org Admin, and URL is provided by the Filevine API team in advance.

If you log in to Filevine using a tenant-based URL like:

https://{company-name}.filevineapp.com

then your API Portal access will be at:

https://{company-name}.portal.filevineapp.com

If you do not use the tenant-based system (i.e., you log into https://app.filevine.com) then you will access your API Portal at either of the following links:

Requesting Access to Filevine API Portal

You'll need to ask Filevine support to enable your Org for API access if you have not already, as well as Advanced Access for Key creation directly from Filevine:

Simply go to the Filevine support page and start a chat with a support rep requesting API access, or reach out to your Filevine Account Manager if you know who they are.

Alternatively, you can click the button below to send a pre-populated email to support requesting access:

Once your Org has been enabled, you can log into your API Portal and add/manage your API Keys, or you can do it from the Advanced tools page in your Filevine.

I have access to my API Keys

We recommend creating a Key specifically for VineConnect and providing all scopes when you generate it. To navigate to this tool in Filevine, click Main Menu > Advanced and select API Credentials from the left side menu. This view allows users to create and manage Org’s API keys more easily (The API keys are limited to 10 for each Org):

Click Create New Key in the top right corner, and then fill out the key’s purpose and click Create. (All keys are created with all appropriate scopes by default, keep it this way.)

The API Key and Key Secret will be generated, DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY FROM THIS PAGE. You will only see the Key Secret on this page, it will not appear if you navigate away from it and you'll need to log directly into the API portal itself to view it again:

Once generated, copy the API Key and Key Secret into your Admin Settings like so and SAVE:

From here you can also configure a few other basic settings, like your Law Firm's logo, Law Firm display name, and whether you want to allow Clients to access archived projects via the Client Portal. For more info or go to our Admin Settings Support Article.
