Adding References for Existing Text

Students can add references for text that is already in VisibleAI. To do this, students should highlight the text they would like to enter a reference for. From there they can select "Add Reference".

This action will bring up a dropdown list that allows you to cite your source by completing the blank fields.

Pasted Content

When you attempt to paste content, either by pressing Ctrl + V or right clicking and pasting from the menu, you will encounter a pop-up within VisibleAI. This pop-up prompts you to add a source for the content you are pasting. Clicking the input field will trigger a dropdown list of options to choose.

If you select Book, Journal Article, Website, or AI Generated you will be prompted to fill in fields that are required to create a reference. Please note that when you use VisibleAI's AI assistant to insert text into your document, a reference will automatically generate citing this AI tool.

An alternate option is to choose Custom Citation. This will allow you to add your own citation in the style of your choice within the Comment box.

If you chose to write some of your content outside of VisibleAI and then include it through the use of the paste function, you should select My own text outside of VisibleAI. However, you will still have to provide a reason to your instructor in the comment box as to why you are pasting from outside of VisibleAI.

Once you have filled in the required field(s), you can select Paste Text. The content you wished to paste is then added to your document in VisibleAI and the reference you created can now be found by toggling the quotation mark icon visible on the right side of the screen. This reference list will show all the references you have used for pasted material. For each citation, it will show the date and time at which it was pasted, the type of source you chose, and the text that is linked to that particular reference.
