When you manage clients' LinkedIn account, we know it can be a hassle to frequently ask them for a 6-digit confirmation code that they receive via email or on their phone.
Our best recommendation in that case is to set up Microsoft Authenticator instead of the default code. The main advantage is that it is multiple-device friendly 🤯
This means you and your client can both have a permanent and secured connection method to their LinkedIn account. No more asking for a code, you already have it on your phone, and they have it as well 😎
💡 LinkedIn recommends the authenticator app as the preferred two-step verification method. See this post from LinkedIn's help desk on the topic. It also includes a full tutorial to set it up, but you might as well follow our article for visual guidance 😉
💡 You can use any other authentication app you like, but Microsoft's one is the most stable, as LinkedIn is Microsoft owned. Plus it's free 🤑
Follow the steps below to set up the authenticator app for Two-Step Verification:
Install Microsoft Authenticator from your preferred app store.
Select the profile icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.
Under the Sign-in & security, select Two-step verification to enable or change your two-step verification method.
Enable two-step verification and choose Authenticator App as your verification method. Select Continue and submit your LinkedIn password.
LinkedIn will generate a Secret Key that you shall send to your mobile device to link it.
💡 Save this Secret key in a safe place, as you will use it again to set up multiple devices.
The next steps are to be done on both your mobile and your clients' 😉Open your authenticator app and tap Add Account or click the + icon in the top right corner. If this is your first time setting up an account on the app, you’ll be prompted to set up an account.
Select Other and select an account name — I recommend using the name of your client.
Enter the secret key provided by LinkedIn into the Authenticator App.
Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your authenticator app to verify your device.
Well done ! Your mobile and this LinkedIn account are linked with a permanent and secure connection ⛓️
Anytime LinkedIn asks for a 6-digits validation code, just open your Microsoft Authenticator app and use the code displayed on screen. The same code is displayed simultaneously on your client's device, and it expires after 15 seconds. A new one is then generated.
