Video Summary may use credits. Upload source, video length, translation, and export options can depend on your plan.

Use Video Summary to quickly understand a long video without watching the entire thing.

Video Summary gives you a short overview, main topics, timeline sections, and timestamped key points so you can decide what to watch, review, or explore next.

Open Video Summary

  • Go to My Workspace.

  • Click Video Summary.

You can find Video Summary on the home page with other WayinVideo tools.

Upload or import your video

You can add a video in one of three ways:

  • Upload a video file

  • Paste a YouTube video link

  • Paste another supported video link

After adding your video, WayinVideo will process it and generate an understanding workspace for the video.

Processing is very fast. Even hour-long videos are typically summarized in just a few minutes, so you get insights almost immediately without waiting.

Review the summary

After processing is complete, open the Summary tab. The Summary tab gives you a quick overview of the video, including:

  • A general summary of the video

  • Main topics or tags

  • A timeline of important sections

  • Key points with timestamps

Use this page when you want to understand the main content of the video quickly.

Use More Insights for a deeper chapter summary

In the chapter summary, each chapter card includes a More Insights option. Click the "➕" icon in the upper-right corner of a chapter to expand More Insights.

More Insights gives you a deeper explanation of that chapter, including more context about what happens in the video and why that section matters.

Use More Insights when you want to:

  • Go beyond the short chapter summary

  • Understand a complex section in more detail

  • Review the context around an important timestamp

  • Turn one chapter into richer study notes

  • Explore ideas, examples, scenes, or explanations from a specific part of the video

After opening More Insights, you can still click timestamps to return to the original video section and review the source moment.

Use the timeline

In the Summary tab, you can review the timeline to see how the video is organized.

Each timeline section may include:

  • A timestamp range

  • A section title

  • A short explanation of what happens in that part

Click a timestamp or section to jump to that part of the video. This is helpful when you want to find the most relevant part without scrubbing through the entire video manually.

Review key points

In the Summary tab, review timestamped key points to understand the most important parts of the video.

Key points may include:

  • Main ideas

  • Important explanations

  • Topic changes

  • Useful examples

  • Notable moments

Click a timestamp to open the original part of the video and check the surrounding context.

What to do next

After you read the summary, choose your next step based on what you need:

  • If you need exact dialogue, timestamps, or reusable text, open Video Transcripts.

  • If you want to ask follow-up questions about the video, use Chat.

  • If you want to find a specific topic, scene, character, action, emotion, or quote, use Find Moments.

  • If the video has little narration or no subtitles, review what WayinVideo can understand from the visuals.

  • If you want to save or share the result, export the summary, transcript, or mind map.
