Why it matters

The Whippy browser extension extends Whippy’s messaging capabilities into the websites you already work in. It runs on any Chromium-based browser, allowing teams to message contacts, launch campaigns, and keep conversations synced without switching tools. Understanding the available actions helps you use the extension safely and choose the right workflow for 1:1 messaging or large-scale outreach.

Key Concepts

Whippy Browser Extension: A browser extension that enables Whippy messaging directly from web pages that display phone numbers.

Chromium-based browser: A browser built on the open-source Chromium project. These browsers support Chrome Web Store extensions. Common examples include Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.

1:1 messaging: Sending a direct message to a single contact.

Mass messaging (campaigns): Sending the same message to many contacts at once.

Audience collection: The process of gathering phone numbers visible on a web page.

Batch sending: Sending campaign messages in controlled groups to manage volume.

Sync: Automatic logging of messages and conversations back into Whippy.

Step-by-Step: What You Can Do with the Whippy Browser Extension

Send 1:1 messages from websites

  1. Open a web page that displays a phone number.

  2. Click the Whippy icon next to the phone number.

  3. Open the Whippy messaging pane.

  4. Compose and send a message.

Available actions in 1:1 messaging:

  • View full conversation history.

  • Send and receive messages in real time.

  • Attach files.

  • Insert templates.

  • Translate messages.

  • Schedule messages to send later.

  • Insert signatures.

All messages sent this way appear in the Whippy inbox.

Start conversations from unknown numbers

  1. Click the Whippy icon next to a phone number that is not yet a contact.

  2. Send a message directly.

  3. Allow Whippy to create or associate a contact where possible.

This allows outreach without manually creating contacts first.

Collect phone numbers for mass messaging

  1. Open a list, table, or search results page where phone numbers are visible.

  2. Scroll fully so all rows and numbers load.

  3. Open the Whippy extension panel.

  4. Allow the extension to collect all visible phone numbers.

Only phone numbers currently visible on the page are collected.

Refresh and control audience collection

  1. Open the Whippy extension panel.

  2. Click Refresh to clear previously collected numbers.

  3. Return to the intended page or list.

  4. Scroll fully and reopen the panel to collect a clean audience.

This helps prevent sending messages to unintended contacts.

Create and send mass messaging campaigns

  1. From the extension, click Create campaign.

  2. Review the collected audience.

  3. Name the campaign clearly.

  4. Select the sending channel.

  5. Write the campaign message.

  6. Save, schedule, or send the campaign.

Campaign capabilities include:

  • Scheduling messages by date, time, and timezone.

  • Sending in batches to control delivery speed.

  • Automatically excluding opted-out contacts.

  • Optionally excluding contacts with open conversations.

Monitor and manage campaigns

  1. Open the campaign from the extension or the Whippy web app.

  2. Review campaign status: Draft, Scheduled, In Progress, or Completed.

  3. Pause or resume campaigns that are sending in batches.

  4. Review campaign results and responses.

Use message automation with campaigns

Campaigns created via the extension can include automation triggers such as:

  • Keyword triggers: Triggered when replies contain specific keywords.

  • Response triggers: Triggered on any reply.

  • Link click triggers: Triggered when a recipient clicks a link.

Automation actions may include:

  • Sending an automated follow-up message.

  • Assigning the conversation to a user.

  • Continuing a workflow based on engagement.

Use Whippy on non-integrated websites

  1. Visit any website that displays phone numbers.

  2. Click the Whippy icon next to a number.

  3. Send a message using the Whippy pane.

Limitations on non-integrated sites:

  • Contact names may not display.

  • Conversations may not link back to a source system.

Messages still appear in the Whippy inbox.

Maintain sync and conversation history

  • All messages sent from the extension appear in Whippy.

  • Replies from contacts return to the same conversation thread.

  • Conversations remain accessible from both web and mobile apps.

This ensures continuity regardless of where the message was sent from.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Refresh the extension before collecting numbers from a new page or list.

  • Scroll fully through lists to ensure all phone numbers load.

  • Use batch sending for large audiences to control volume and reduce risk.

  • Keep messages concise to manage credit usage.

  • Confirm you are working in the correct Whippy organisation before sending.

  • Use templates to maintain consistency and speed.
