When verifying your bank account using Deutsche Bank, you may be asked to enter additional details during the Penny Drop verification process.

This article explains why this happens and how you can complete the verification successfully.

What you will see

If you select Deutsche Bank as your bank, a screen titled “Additional Details” will appear asking for:

  • Branch code (3-digit number)

  • Account number (7-digit number)

Some Deutsche Bank customers cannot immediately provide these details because they now log in using their Deutsche Bank ID, which replaced the old branch number and account number format.

Why this happens

In August 2025, Deutsche Bank introduced a major update to their online banking system. Customers now use a personal Deutsche Bank ID instead of the previous login format that used:

  • Branch number (Filialkennzahl / FKN)

  • Account number

However, our payment provider currently still uses the legacy Deutsche Bank login format, which requires the branch code and account number.

We are actively working with our partners to update this integration so that the Deutsche Bank ID can be supported directly.

How to find your branch code and account number

The good news is that your original branch number and account number are still active. You can find them in several places:

1. On your Deutsche Bank debit card

Turn your card over. On the back you will find:

  • Your branch number (3 digits)

  • Your account number (7 digits)

2. In Deutsche Bank online banking

  1. Log in to your Deutsche Bank online banking.

  2. Navigate to Profile → ID Management.

  3. Your linked branch number and account number will be displayed there.

3. On your bank statement

Both the branch number and account number are printed on every bank statement.

How to enter the information

When completing the verification form:

  • Enter your 3-digit branch number in the Branch code field.

  • Enter your 7-digit account number in the Account number field.

After entering these details, you can continue with the verification process.

Alternative option

If you cannot locate your branch number and account number, you can also complete the verification using an account from another bank, such as:

  • Sparkasse

  • Commerzbank

  • ING

  • Other supported banks

Status of this issue

⚠️ Please note: We are aware of this limitation and are actively working with our payment provider to support the new Deutsche Bank ID login directly.

Once this update becomes available, we will notify our users.
