How to update your camera

How to Update Your WiseEye Camera Firmware

Keeping your WiseEye camera's firmware up to date helps ensure the best possible performance, connectivity, and reliability.

The easiest way to update your camera is directly through HuntControl! Most updates can be completed remotely without removing your camera from the field, using an SD card, or downloading files.

We recommend trying an Over-the-Air (OTA) update first. If a remote update isn't available, we'll walk you through the manual update process below.

Option 1: Update Through HuntControl (Recommended)

An Over-the-Air (OTA) update allows your camera to download and install new firmware using its cellular connection.

You don't need to visit your camera or remove its SD card.

How to request an OTA update

  1. Open the HuntControl app or visit me.huntcontrol.com.

  2. Select the camera you want to update.

  3. Open the camera's Remote Control page.

  4. Scroll down and expand Additional Settings.

  5. Look for Camera Firmware Update.

  6. If an update is available, select the button and follow the prompts.

That's it! Your camera will receive the update request the next time it communicates with HuntControl.

How long will the update take?

The time depends on your camera's connection and Remote Control settings.

  • Always Available: Your camera may receive the update request shortly after you send it.

  • 4 Times Daily: Your camera may receive the request during its next scheduled check-in or when it communicates after taking a picture.

Once your camera receives the request, it will download and install the available firmware.

A few things to remember:

  • Your camera must have sufficient battery power and a working cellular connection.

  • Don't send the same update request repeatedly while an update is pending.

  • Your camera may temporarily be unavailable in Remote Control during the update.

  • Some cameras may require more than one OTA update to reach the latest firmware version.

After the update finishes, HuntControl will display the camera's updated firmware version once the camera reports it.

Don't see a Camera Firmware Update button?

No problem! There are a few possible reasons:

  • Your camera may already have the latest firmware.

  • An OTA update may not be available for your current firmware version.

First, check your firmware version using the instructions below.

If your camera needs an update but the OTA option isn't available, you can follow the manual update instructions for your specific model.

Important: Different hardware revisions of the same camera model may require different firmware files. Never install an update unless your current firmware version matches the versions listed for that download.

How to Find Your Camera's Current Firmware Version

Before performing a manual update, you'll need to know which firmware version your camera is currently running.

You can find it in HuntControl.

On the HuntControl website:

  1. Sign in at me.huntcontrol.com.

  2. Select your camera.

  3. Open Remote Control.

  4. Look near the top of the page for the firmware version.

On the HuntControl mobile app:

  1. Open your camera list.

  2. Find the camera you want to check.

  3. Tap the down arrow next to the camera's name.

  4. Look for the firmware version in the expanded camera information.

Your firmware version will look something like GLR1HArFB01.

Make sure you record the entire version exactly as shown.

Option 2: Update Manually Using an SD Card

If an OTA update isn't available, you can update certain WiseEye cameras using an SD card.

Choose your camera model below, confirm that your current firmware version matches one of the listed versions, and follow the installation instructions.

If your camera already has the latest firmware listed for its family, no manual update is needed.

Why are there multiple versions of some cameras?

From time to time we have to make minor changes internally on the camera to keep up with the available supply of certain chips. This does not affect functionality at all but it does mean that there are multiple versions of the MC2 and DC2 cameras that require unique firmware.

How to Install MC2 Firmware Using an SD Card

Both MC2 versions use the same installation process, but the firmware downloads are not interchangeable.

  1. Download the correct ZIP file for your camera.

  2. Extract or unzip the downloaded folder until you find these two files:

    • DSP_UPGRADE.bin

    • DSP_UPGRADE.CFG

  3. Copy both files to the main directory of an SD card. Do not place them inside another folder.

  4. Safely remove the SD card from your computer and insert it into the camera.

  5. Make sure your camera has good batteries or reliable external power.

  6. With the camera switched OFF, press and hold the TEST button.

  7. While holding TEST, slide the power switch to SETUP.

  8. When the first indicator light begins blinking green, release the TEST button.

  9. Allow the camera to complete the update without turning it off.

The update is complete when all indicator lights illuminate.

Once the camera is operating normally and has communicated with HuntControl, check its firmware version to confirm the update.

DC2 Camera (Version 1)

Latest firmware: GMR2HArGA01

This update is for DC2b cameras currently running one of the following versions:

  • G4D1HArG901

  • G4A1HArG807

  • G4A1HArG805

  • G4A1HArG803

If your firmware matches one of the versions above, download this update and follow the instructions below.

Special note: If your camera shows firmware version GMR2HArG801, please contact WiseEye Support before attempting a manual update. Do not install the DC2-V2 G4 firmware package.

How to Install DC2 Firmware Using an SD Card

Both DC2 firmware families use the same installation procedure, but you must download the correct firmware for your camera.

  1. Download the correct ZIP file using the link above.

  2. Unzip the downloaded folder.

  3. Inside, you should find another ZIP file named DC-02-Camera_OTA.zip.

  4. Do not unzip DC-02-Camera_OTA.zip. This file must remain zipped.

  5. Copy DC-02-Camera_OTA.zip to the main directory of your SD card.

  6. Safely remove the SD card from your computer and insert it into your camera.

  7. Switch the camera to SETUP.

  8. Press MENU and navigate to System > FW Update > Software.

  9. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the update.

  10. Allow the camera to finish installing the firmware and reboot.

Do not turn the camera off or remove the SD card while the update is in progress.

Once the camera has restarted and communicated with HuntControl, verify the new firmware version.

  10. Allow the camera to finish the update and restart.

This process can take 5–10 minutes. Please be patient and do not turn off the camera or remove the SD card during the update.

After the camera restarts, check its firmware version in HuntControl.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to visit my camera to update it?

Not necessarily! If your camera supports an available OTA update and is communicating with HuntControl, you can request the update remotely from your phone or computer.

We always recommend trying this method first.

Why don't I see the firmware update button?

If the Camera Firmware Update button isn't showing in Remote Control, your camera may already be up to date, or an OTA update may not currently be available for its firmware version.

Check your current firmware version and compare it with the versions listed above.

If you're unsure, our Support team can help determine whether your camera needs an update.

I requested an OTA update, but nothing has happened. What should I do?

Your camera needs to communicate with HuntControl before it can receive the update request.

If it's set to check in only a few times each day, the request may remain pending until its next connection.

Make sure the camera has sufficient battery power and a working cellular connection. Avoid sending repeated update requests while the original request is pending.

If the camera continues reporting its old firmware version after subsequent check-ins, contact our Support team.

Can a firmware update improve my camera's cellular connection?

Yes, certain firmware updates include improvements to cellular connection stability.

For some MC2 and DC2 cameras, updates address connection stability issues seen in certain situations.

However, firmware updates cannot improve cellular coverage in an area where there is no usable signal, and cameras may still switch carriers when necessary.

What if my firmware version isn't listed?

Please don't guess or install a firmware package intended for another camera revision.

Contact WiseEye Support with your camera model and complete firmware version. We'll help identify the correct update for your camera.

What if the camera freezes or an update fails?

If your camera becomes unresponsive, doesn't complete an update, or fails to restart properly, please contact our Support team.

Do not attempt to install another firmware package or repeatedly restart the update without guidance.
