By default, grades and course content in Accelerate Education courses are viewed by the semester, and you are unable to view quarter (nine-week) grades. By implementing grading periods, you can choose to view grades and course content by the quarter or by ALL PERIODS.

The ALL PERIODS score is an average of the first grading period and the current score of the second grading period.

~ Prior to completing the first assignment in the second grading period, the ALL PERIODS score is the first grade period (Q1) score.

~ Following completion of the first assignment associated with the second grading period, the ALL PERIODS score is the average between the two grading periods.

Example:

Q1 completed - score = 85%

Q2 1st assignment completed - current score to date = 95%

All periods score = 90% (85% + 95% / 2)

Q1 completed - score = 85%

Q2 2nd assignment completed - current score to date = 70%

All periods score = 77.5% (85% + 70% / 2)

At the start of the second quarter, all users should expect large fluctuations to the ALL PERIODS score. This becomes less noticeable as the second quarter progresses.

Important Note: Grading periods are not based on calendar dates. They are based on mapping course content to a specific grading period.

At the Domain level, eAcademy administrators have enabled unweighted grading periods, which affects visibility of the views within Buzz (i.e., Activities, Gradebook, People, Editor).

At the Course level, you should have already activated grading periods and mapped course content to each grading period. This allows you to view the Fall semester’s Q1 and Q2 items in the Activities, Gradebook, People, and Editor views in Buzz. For Spring semester courses, you can view the Q3 and Q4 items separately from the ALL PERIODS items. For more information, review Making adjustments to Accelerate Education courses in Buzz.

TEACHER VIEWS

All your views default to ALL PERIODS. To see a specific grading period and the associated grade, click ALL PERIODS and make another selection. When you are viewing ALL PERIODS, the Score column will not be visible in the Gradebook and People views. When selecting a specific grading period, like Q1 or Q2, the Score column will become visible. See the examples below.

People View - ALL PERIODS (default view)

Activities View

When you select All periods under the Activities view, then all your modules will be visible. When you select Q1 in a Fall semester course, only the modules mapped to Q1 will be visible, and when you select Q2, only the modules mapped to Q2 will be visible.

Editor View

When you select All periods under the Editor view, then all your modules will be visible. When you select Q1 in a Fall semester course, only the modules mapped to Q1 will be visible, and when you select Q2, only the modules mapped to Q2 will be visible.

STUDENT VIEWS

Course Home Page

On the student’s course home page, the current cumulative score and progress bar do not populate. The student must navigate to the gradebook and select a specific grading period to see the associated quarter grade.

Activities View

When a student selects All periods under the Activities view, then all the modules will be visible. When students select Q1 in a Fall semester course, only the modules mapped to Q1 will be visible, and when students select Q2, only the modules mapped to Q2 will be visible.

Exporting the Buzz Gradebook

When exporting your gradebook, remember to first select the specific grading period you want to view before you click Export scores from the Tools icon (wrench).

The Percent column in the report displays the students’ quarter grades.
