This article shows teachers how to add closed captioning to videos they created using YouTube

With your own YouTube channel, you can add closed captioning to videos you created. This solution works best when you have a video transcript already created.

Log into YouTube or create a free account at YouTube - new window.

From the left menu, click Your Videos.

Click Create at the top right of the page.

Click Upload videos.

Click SELECT FILES and upload a video file.

Add a title for your video.

Audience: Select Yes or No after reading What’s content made for kids. Complete the remaining applicable details.

Click NEXT at the bottom right of the page.

Video elements: To the right of Add subtitles, click ADD.

Video elements: Click Auto-sync and paste in the video’s transcript.

Video elements: Click DONE at the top right of the page.

Video elements: Click EDIT and review the closed captioning. Make any edits as needed and click DONE when finished editing.

Video elements: Click NEXT at the bottom right of the page.

Checks: Click NEXT at the bottom right of the page.

Visibility: Select Unlisted.

Click SAVE at the bottom right of the page.

Click the Copy icon to the right of the video link and then click CLOSE. The link will be copied to your clipboard.

Paste the YouTube video link into a page in your course.
