How to Add a Customer Record

Create a business or individual customer record so your team can track contacts, locations, fleet, and deals in one place.

Add a business customer when a commercial account needs its own record — so contacts, locations, fleet, and deals stay tied to the company, not scattered across individual names.

Before You Start

Plan/Package: Included with limited customer management and above.

In order to add or edit customers you need to have Edit Customers permissions. Contact your account Admin to get permissions if you don't already.

Steps to Add a Customer

There are 3 ways to get started adding customers

  • Using the Create button at the top of the application on desktop or the "+" on mobile

  • Use the keyboard shortcut command+U

  • In the left navigation, under Management, click Customers

From either of those spots the Add Customer will pop up where you can

  1. Confirm the Business tab is selected (it is the default). Use Individual only when the customer is a person, not a company.

    1. For a Business record, Business name and Customer type (Business, Fleet, Fleet management company, or Government) are both required. Location, Vocation, and Website are optional — with the CRM add-on, adding a website lets incoming customer emails auto-match to this record based on the sender's email domain.

    2. For an Individual record, First name, Last name, and either an email address or a phone number are required. The record can't be saved without at least one email address or phone number.

  2. Press Save to add the customer to your Customers list.

Conclusion

Your business customer is ready. Next, add contacts and locations so outreach and delivery details stay on the same account.
