Writable's Book Journey helps teachers plan a book study in just a few minutes. By entering the book title and genre teachers can quickly generate Quick Writes tied to specific skills and assign them in a Writable Journey. Keep reading to learn more about creating and assigning a Book Journey.
Creating a Book Journey
Click 'Create' at the top of the Writable page. Then click 'Book Journey' in the left menu.
Enter your book title and choose if it is Fiction or Non-Fiction. Click 'Next'.
Tip! You can navigate away from this page while the AI generates the assignments. You will see a notification in the top-right corner when your Journey outline is complete.
Once generated, you will see a Journey Outline. You can adjust the Journey Title and Description. Please note that these are in relation to the collection of assignments.
Below the Journey title and description, each assignment will be listed with its title, prompt, and other details. Every aspect of the assignment is customizable!
Let's look at the first Quick Write assignment. In the top right corner, you can use the skill selector to choose a skill for this quick writing exercise, or use the trash icon to delete it entirely. You can also adjust the title, prompt, and answer key for the assignment.
Additionally, Book Journey Quick Writes has teacher-facing support including how the assignment aligns with the book and topics for how to engage students in related discussion before and after the assignment.
Once you have reviewed the Quick Writes, click 'Create Journey' to create the assignments.
Assigning a Book Journey
Once you have created a Book Journey, follow these steps and tips for assigning to your class.
After creating your Book Journey, you will see it in the 'My Journeys' section of My Assignments.
Click on an assignment to Edit, Preview, and Assign to your classes. Click 'Assign' to choose your class(es) and assignment options.
