You Need General Liability Insurance Before Your First Project
WXLLSPACE requires proof of insurance before work begins. Here's everything you need to know—and how to get it in less than an hour.
Why We Require Insurance
General Liability insurance protects everyone: the property owner, you, and our team. It covers injuries or property damage that might happen during the project. This is standard across the mural industry—most property owners won't allow work without it.
What You Need
General Liability Insurance with minimum coverage:
$1,000,000 per occurrence
$2,000,000 aggregate limit
Your policy must cover painting, murals, outdoor work, and work at heights. That's it.
Fastest Way: ERGO Insurance (10 Minutes)
WXLLSPACE partners with ERGO Insurance to make this easy. You can get insured, download your certificate, and be ready to work in under an hour.
Step 1: Get a Quote Online
Go to ERGO's website and start your quote. Select "Fine Artists" or "Painters" from the business type list. Make sure the coverage includes murals and work at heights.
Step 2: Choose Your Plan
Select General Liability with $1,000,000+ per occurrence coverage. Cost is typically $400–600/year.
Step 3: Purchase & Download
Complete the purchase online (takes about 10 minutes). You can download your Certificate of Insurance immediately from your ERGO account.
Step 4: Add WXLLSPACE as Additional Insured
In your ERGO portal, request an endorsement to add WXLLSPACE Inc. as an Additional Insured. This is free and takes 24 hours. ERGO will email you the updated certificate.
Step 5: Upload to Us
Use our submission form to upload your certificate (see below).
Prefer Phone Support?
Call ERGO and tell them: "I'm a mural artist and need $1M+ General Liability coverage. Please add WXLLSPACE Inc. as an Additional Insured." They'll email your certificate within 1–2 business days.
Other Insurance Providers
If ERGO doesn't work for you, try:
The Hartford — $400–800/year
Hiscox — ~$500–900/year
CNA — ~$600–1,200/year
Make sure any provider covers murals and heights, and can add WXLLSPACE as an Additional Insured.
How to Submit Your Proof
Step 1: Get your Certificate of Liability Insurance (COI) from your insurance provider (or download it from your ERGO account).
Step 2: Upload it here: Insurance Submission Form
Step 3: We'll verify within 2 business days. You'll get an email confirming approval or asking for clarification.
Important: You must have approved insurance before we can move forward. We can't start work without it.
Common Questions
Q: How long does this actually take?
A: If you use ERGO online, you're done in less than an hour. Other providers usually take 1–2 business days to send your certificate.
Q: Do I really need to add WXLLSPACE as "Additional Insured"?
A: Yes, please. This is typically free and just requires an endorsement from your insurance provider. We can't proceed without it.
Q: What if my insurance expires during a project?
A: Tell us immediately. We'll pause work until you provide proof of renewal. Keep your coverage current by setting a calendar reminder 30 days before expiration.
Q: Can I use homeowner's or renter's insurance?
A: No. Those policies exclude business activities. You need commercial General Liability insurance.
Q: What if I work with a team or have assistants?
A: You're responsible for coverage. Ask your insurance provider if they can extend coverage to anyone working on site with you.
Q: What if I can't afford $1M coverage?
A: Let's talk. Some providers offer project-based coverage at lower costs. Email us and we'll explore options.
