Don't Overcomplicate Your Starting Point

Sustainability is a big topic with lots of moving elements! If you try to tackle everything at once, this can lead to confusion, overwhelm and worst of all: inaction.

Do start with a baseline assessment

Zellar helps you to keep sustainability simple. Start with our step-by-step missions to calculate your starting baseline for a few key areas, before expanding.

Don't treat sustainability as a One-Off project

Sustainability is an ongoing process, not a single initiative. It is easy to treat sustainability reporting like an audit, but organisations who integrate sustainability into their organisational culture, planning and operations reap the benefits of long-term impact, including saving costs!

Do involve your team early

For sustainability initiatives to be successful both short-term and long-term, you need to have buy-in from your teams. Employees will have valuable insights and ideas for their day-to-day and the business as a whole. Hold workshops, encourage feedback and establish a green team or sustainability champion to support initiatives.

Do set targets and do regularly review them

It is easy to set a target - but is this target achievable, realistic and most importantly, will you be able to track your progress against this target? Break your goals down into short term actions (such as projects) and long-term plans (i.e net zero targets)!
