If Zellar cannot locate your meters, don’t worry. You can manually add your MPANs (electricity) and MPRNs (gas) through the platform. These numbers are typically found on your energy bills or by contacting your energy supplier.

Your MPAN and MPRN are unique identifiers for your electricity and gas meters. They allow us to accurately connect to your energy provider's data systems to retrieve consumption details. This ensures the calculations for your carbon footprint are as precise as possible.

Yes! If you manage more than one property or have multiple meters, you can add up to 5 different addresses in the energy mission. If you have different buildings in very different locations and would like to speak to us about creating a sustainability plan for each site, please get in touch via the chatbot.

Not a problem. When you refresh your monthly energy data, we will update the energy supplier, so you don't need to worry.

Zellar should always be able to give you an estimated annual consumption, so if this is the case, please do get in touch with us so we can have a look into this!

There is a lag in my monthly energy data. What should I do?
Unless you have a half-hourly meter, there is usually a 30 day delay in energy data being confirm in the system due to the suppliers processing this data.
If there is a lag of more than a month, there are things you can do:
Ensure that meter readings are submitted regularly -> Use Zellar's Rituals to help
Move to a smart meter so that the data is logged automatically -> Have a look at our smart meter project which can support you in making this change

You can edit your previously submitted Mission data by going into the Missions Page and clicking 'View and Edit Data' on the relevant Mission.
You can also make any changes from the Emissions page too!

My electricity usage has gone down but my carbon emissions has gone up. Why is this?
Zellar calculates carbon emissions using official UK government emission factors, which are updated each year in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. These factors depend on the overall energy mix in the national grid.
Even if you use less electricity, your carbon emissions may still increase if the proportion of green energy in the grid has decreased. Normally the emission factors go down each year as the UK uses more renewables. However, due to the impact of the pandemic, they actually went up from 2022 to 2023
To get the full picture, it's important to consider both your electricity usage and the emissions factor for that year.

If specific data isn’t available, you can use industry averages or estimates based on employee numbers and typical travel modes. Zellar offers default assumptions and calculation tools to fill in gaps.

Zellar will help to give you an indication of what targets you should be aiming towards, both long-term (net zero) and short-term. By calculating your emissions, you will build up a picture of your current emissions and identify areas with the most significant reduction potential. We recommend starting with realistic, incremental goals first!

While you will be reviewing rituals, projects and emissions on a more regular basis, we recommend reviewing your targets annually to account for changes in business operations, seasons and other external factors.
