Guide to the different formatting settings

You can access the additional Format Settings by expanding the format window, with this small button on the ribbon.

Once expanded, you will be presented with this window, containing multiple formatting options and settings.

Numbering Styles:

The settings on the right of this formatting group can also be found on the default formatting group, these allow you to define the numbering style for each component of the bundle. The options for each of the numbering styles are explained below:

Setting

This allows you to define the numbering style used to paginate the index pages

This allows you to define the numbering style used to label sections

This allows you to define the numbering style used to paginate the pages in the bundle. Use the "PDF page numbers" option at the bottom to paginate the bundle continuously throughout the bundle starting from the cover page (this option will make your bundle compliant to the updated court guidelines for 2022).

This allows you to define the numbering style used to paginate the sub-pages in the bundle

This allows you to choose if your bundle paginates continuously throughout, or if each section starts paginating at 1

Numbering Style

Description

Removes the numbering style

User-added image

Uses a numeric numbering style e.g 1,2,3,4

User-added image

Uses an alpha numbering style e.g A,B,C,D

User-added image

Uses an lowercase alpha numbering style e.g a,b,c,d

Uses roman numeral numbering style e.g I,II,III,IV

Uses lowercase roman numeral numbering style e.g i,ii,iii,iv


The options on the right of the Numbering Styles group can only be found on the expanded formatting window. These settings are explained below:

This will prefix the page number with the section number

This defines the character(s) used to separate the section number and the page number, by default it is set to "-"

If you have selected any documents as sub pages, this separator will appear between the main page number and the sub page number. By default this is set to "."

This setting allows you to change the position of the page number on each document:

  • Right - Aligns the page number to the right

  • Centre - Centres the page number

  • Left - Aligns the page number to the left

By default the page number alignment is set to "Right"

Selecting the Page Labels option will ensure that the page numbers in the PDF veiwer match with the page numbers shown in the bundle

If you are numbering your sections, you can choose the start value. For example if you are numbering sections Alpha (Uppercase) you can choose to start the numbering from A, B, C etc.

This setting allows you to define your own section numbers/characters

You can define where numbering appears on landscape pages in the bundle.

  • Vertical - Page number appears on the right-hand margin of the landscape page.

  • Horizontal - Page number appears on the bottom of the landscape page.

  • Both - Page number appears on both the vertical and horizontal.

By default this setting is set to "Vertical"

This allows you to manually set the starting page numbers. For example you may wish the first section to start pagination from 100 instead of 1


Document Numbering:

The Style setting allows you to change the way your docments are numbered:

  • None - Documents aren't numbered at all.

  • Numeric - Documents are numbered continuously, e.g. 1,2,3...

  • Section - Documents are numbered by the section they are in, e.g. A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3

If this setting is set to "Numeric" or "Section" the other settings in this group (Pre-text, Page Position and Separator) become available to change.

You can define text to appear before the document number, i.e. "Doc No."

You can position where the document numbers appear at the top of the page bundle:

  • Hide - Only shows document numbers in the index

  • Right - Aligns the document numbers on the right

  • Centre - Aligns the document numbers to the centre

  • Left - Aligns the document numbers to the left

By default this is set to "Right"

This defines the character to appear before the document number, by default this is set to "-"


Core Bundles:

Allows you to make the excluded documents in the bundle to be greyed out in the Index

Any character entered would appear as a prefix to any excluded documents in the Index

Allows you to make the excluded documents struck through in the Index

Any text which you want to appear at the foot of the Index regarding the core bundle


Fonts:



You can set the fonts for the component parts of your bundle using the Fonts tab.

This allows you to apply an outline to the page numbers in the bundle. This can be useful where the page number font is the same colour as the background on the pages and you can't see it. Choose from:

  • Basic - The page number has an outline added to its characters in the colour selected

  • Block - The page number is contained in a block in the colour selected
