When working offline in the 1Place app, you can continue completing your usual offline tasks. To help keep children’s information safe, People data is not stored on your device by default. What is available in the People field while offline depends on whether Offline People Sync is enabled for your organisation.
What happens to the People field while offline?
There are two ways the People field may work while you are offline.
✓ If Offline People Sync is not enabled
This is the default setting.
When your device is offline:
The People field will not load People data.
You cannot search for or add a person using the People field.
Records that cannot be submitted can continue to be saved to Drafts.
Once your device reconnects, the People field will work as normal.
You may see the following message when trying to use the People field:
“You’re offline, we can’t load any results.”
✓ If Offline People Sync is enabled
Your organisation may choose to enable Offline People Sync.
When this is enabled, you can continue to select people from the People field while your device is offline.
Only the person’s first and last name will be available. Other People details, such as date of birth, parent names and gender, are not stored for offline use and will not be available until your connection is restored.
Note: Offline People Sync is managed at the organisation level. You do not need to change this setting yourself.
What happens when I reconnect?
When your internet connection is restored, the app will return to online mode.
If you have been offline for minutes, a banner will show how long you were offline and provide a Reload option. If you have any unsubmitted drafts, the banner will also remind you to submit them.
If you are still working on a record
If you started a record while offline and your device reconnects while the record is still open, select Reload to load the latest People data.
If the record was saved to Drafts
If you reopen the record from Drafts after reconnecting, the latest People data will load automatically.
How often does the app sync?
The 1Place app syncs data in the background once a week by default.
If you want your device to sync more frequently, you can change this to Daily:
Settings → Sync data for offline
Why am I seeing a sync banner after updating the app?
The first time you use the updated app, you will see a one-time sync banner.
You can tap the banner to start the sync immediately. If you leave it, the sync will begin automatically shortly after.
This is expected and only occurs as part of the initial sync after updating.
What device version do I need?
To use the offline functionality included in this update, your device must be running:
iOS 15 or later
Android 12 or later
Devices running earlier versions will not have the offline feature available
