A valve log represents a valve operation and a status check represents a validation of the current status of the valve (Open, Closed or Partly Open).
Open - currently represented by the color green
Closed - currently represented by the color red
Partly open - currently represented by the color yellow
Valve list
The valve list gives an overview of all the valves and their current status. You can navigate to the chosen valve by clicking anywhere on its row in the list.
The clicked valve information opens in the same window.
NB: To return to the valve list, use the ‘Back to Valve List’ button. Avoid using the browser back button, as it will take you to the Field Layout in 4insight.
Valve logs
The valve log section displays a history of all changes, including both logs and status checks. Each entry is clearly labeled so you can distinguish between a log and a status check.

Is this valve log part of a plan?
If this valve log is created as part of a plan it will be marked with the name of the plan:
You can then easily navigate to that plan by clicking the hyperlink, opening a new tab in the web browser.
You will also have the Related Plans overview in the Logs window where you will see all the logs / status checks for the chosen valve. You can also click the hyperlink to go to the exact plan.
Adding log and status check
You add a log or a status check by clicking the relevant button:
Adding a log
Click the '+Add log' button and you will get a pop-up window to fill out.
When adding a log, some information is already pre-populated such as Time (Time is set to NOW (default to your local PC time zone setting and stored as UTC value)), Operator (taken from the last known log, so it will be empty the very first log you create), Worksite and Initial position (taken from the Last final position value). You will also see handy information on the right side of the pop-up; "Last final position", "Turns to open", Maximum Input Torque, Damage Torque. Right underneath the 'Add log to (valve name)', there are some additional information taken from the meta-data section, ROV marking, Title, Group and Location. Having this information readily available in the 'Add log' pop-up will make it easier to input the correct data and that you do not need to navigate back to the valve meta-data overview to retrieve that specific information.
You will also be able to upload the 'as found' and 'as left' images from the valve operation once you have the images ready from the ROV crew.
Time - time of valve operation (Mandatory).
The date and time stamp is automatically populated
NB: The date is shown as per your local browser settings (so it could be dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy), so please pay extra attention to this when looking at the valve log overviews later (as that is shown as per your browser settings too).
The time is stored as UTC values. Just input the actual time of the operation for the regional time zone that you are in currently. Again, the time shown in the valve log overview will be displayed as per your browser settings, either showing the time as a 24-hour clock variation or with the AM/PM variation.
Operator - company responsible for this valve operation execution, e.g. a third party contractor. This field is automatically populated with the previous input, thus make sure to confirm that the text is correct as you might have different vessel operators performing a valve operation.
Worksite - worksite and/or vessel responsible for the valve operation. This field is automatically populated with the previous input, thus make sure to confirm that the text is correct as you might have been at different locations/worksites for the particular valve operation.
Initial position - initial position as found valve position. This field is automatically populated with the 'Last final position' as seen in the valve meta-data information list.
Final position - final position as left valve position (Mandatory).
Break out torque (Nm) - end-to-close, start-to-open torque applied in Nm. Manual input required.
Max running torque (Nm) - max running torque measured in Nm after valve break out. Manual input required.
Actual turns - number of turns required to change valve position. Manual input required.
Comments - free text to describe valve operation such as observations, special circumstances. Manual input required.
Issue toggle button. Click the button to indicate an issue with the valve. Insert the issue comment in the text field popping up after you toggle the Issue button. Manual input required and cannot be left blank.
Documents drop-down list. Choose a document that is relevant to the specific valve log. There is the possibility to also upload a new document.
If you add a new document, fill out the required fields and click Add document
As-found image - you can add an image of the valve as you found it. Manual upload required.
As-left image - you can add an image of the valve as you left it. Manual upload required.
If you try to add a log entry where the Initial position differs from the Last final position you will get a warning to avoid incorrect entries:
Adding a status check
When adding a status check, you are only confirming the current valve position (status):

As-found image - you can add an image of the valve as it was found/verified position. Manual upload required.
Editing a log or status check
At any time you can navigate to the log section for a valve and click on the pencil icon to start editing the exisiting log.
Make the relevant changes and click the Update log/status check button:
Editing the pictures
You can also edit the pictures by first deleting it and then add a new one:
You have the option to either take a new picture straight ahead with your camera or choose a file to upload.
Deleting Valve Logs and Checks
You can delete valve logs and status checks (please use with caution as you will not be able to retrieve the deleted log/check). To be able to delete, your access rights role must be that of either Manager or Administrator (NB: the same role as required to create and/or edit valve logs and checks).
When you are signed in (as a Manager or Administrator), you will now be able to see the 'trash bin' (delete) icon next to the 'pen' (edit) icon.
Before deletion
The Overview tab will display the last log entry time and last final position. As usual, the information is taken from the Logs tab and the relevant valve history. So in the above example, this is the information (valve operated to closed on 10/27/2025 at 02:25pm) that will be displayed on the Overview tab:
To delete a log, click on the 'trash bin' icon and confirm your decision top delete the log.
After deletion
The Overview tab will now reflect the details from the Logs tab (valve checked as open on 07/29/2025 at 06:42) , which corresponds to the last known and visible entry of the valve log/status check history.
When a valve log/check entry is part of a plan
There is a built-in security process that will run a check on any log or check (that is confirmed to be deleted) if the entry is connected to a completed plan. In this case, if a valve log/check is part of a completed plan and has been added via the plan page, then the system will not allow you to delete the valve log/check.
The steps to delete a valve log/check that is part of a plan is to move the plan back to the Ready for Execution and then you can proceed with deleting the log.
Then you can delete the individual line item for the relevant valve. Confirm your deletion with a Yes in the pop-up window.
You can now add the specific valve operation as a line item to the plan again (NB: remember to place the valve operation at the correct order in the plan if needed).
P&ID - visualizing valve status
If you use the dynamic P&ID functionality you will instantly the latest valves status (taken from the last final position information of the specific valve Overview) visualized by color coding (Green = Open, Yellow = Partly Open, Red = Closed):
If you need to manage your own P&IDs you can read this article: P&IDs - Creating an interactive P&ID using Inkscape | 4insight (intercom.help)
