Why Was My Bitnob Virtual Card Terminated?

Answers to all your questions on why your card was terminated.

Written by Bernard

Bitnob virtual cards are a convenient way to pay for subscriptions and shop online, but they come with specific rules to ensure smooth operations and prevent misuse. Understanding and following these rules will help you avoid issues, such as your card being terminated.

Here’s a simple explanation of the situations that can lead to your card's termination.

How and Why a Card Can Be Terminated

  1. When You Request Termination
If you decide to end your card’s use, you can do so anytime. Once you make the request, your card will be terminated within 5 to 10 minutes.

  2. When There Isn’t Enough Money on the Card
If you try to make payments but don’t have enough funds on your card, this could lead to termination.

A card is automatically terminated when:

    a. There are 3 declined transactions. On the 3rd declined transaction, the card is permanently terminated after a fee is charged.

    b. Negative card balance after fee debit — If a fee debit causes your card balance to go negative, the card is immediately terminated

  3. Termination Rules for New and Used Cards

    1. Cards Without Prior Successful Payment History: If your card has never been used successfully, it will be terminated after three failed attempts in a row due to insufficient funds.

    2. Cards With Prior Successful Payment History: If your card has been used successfully in the past, it will only be terminated after the third failed attempt, even if you’ve frozen it manually before (Freezing your card does not prevent it from being charged. To avoid unexpected charges, make sure to remove your card from any platform with recurring payments, especially when you no longer wish to subscribe to the service.)

      Declined Authorisation Fee
This fee applies when a card payment fails. A declined fee is deducted when a card transaction is declined.

A declined fee is also deducted when an Authorisation is not completed — a payment was approved by the card, but the merchant never finalised it, so the transaction was reversed and the money returned to the card

Why All These Rules?

  • Keep your account safe from misuse.

  • Make sure the system runs smoothly for everyone.

  • Encourage proper account and card balance management.

Tips to Keep Your Card Active

  • Always check your card balance before making payments.

  • Avoid making payments if you know there isn’t enough money on the card.

  • If your card is frozen, unfreeze it and top up before trying again.

By following these simple steps and keeping track of your balance, you can enjoy using your Bitnob virtual card without interruptions. These rules are there to protect you and make sure your transactions are safe and hassle-free.
