If you linked Stripe as your payment gateway and have received credit card payments the line item 'Credit Card Processing Fee' is automatically added as an expense to your event finances.

This comes from Stripe charging 2.9%+$.30 for each credit card transaction. These fees are deducted before the money is deposited into your Stripe account. For example, if you sell a hole sponsor package for $100 and that individual pays by credit card your tournament only collects $96.80 because Stripe is taking the 2.9%+.30 per transaction.

You can see how this is being calculated by going to Finances > Payment Transactions for your tournament and exporting the data to CSV. In the CSV file, remove all transactions except those where Payment_type = Card. Add a new column next to 'Order_total' and add in the formula of =(0.029*[cell with the Order_total]+0.3 and apply that to each payment. Sum up all the amounts and it should match the Credit Card Processing Fee (plus or minus a few cents due to rounding).

NOTE: This is not the same as the Credit Card Convenience Fee registering players pay if paying by credit card.

Additional Information (Q&A)

  • Can I add an option at checkout for purchasers to cover the transaction fees?
You can use the 'Custom Fee' option under Tournament -> Settings to enable and set the fee. We recommend setting it at around 3.2% to help cover credit card costs. Please note that this fee will apply to all payment methods, including cash and check payments.
