Adding text items

How to use text items to quickly charge for one-off or ad-hoc items without creating new products in your catalogue.

Adding Text Items to an Order

Text items are a flexible way to charge for one-off or ad-hoc items without needing to create a new product in your catalogue. Whether it is a last-minute sub rental, a standalone charge, or anything else that does not fit your standard stock, text items let you invoice for it quickly and cleanly.

What Is a Text Item?

A text item is a non-stock product that acts as a blank placeholder. Once added to an Order, you can overtype the name and fill in the details to match whatever you need to charge for.

OnRent Go includes a pre-built text item ready to use. If you need to create additional text items, you can do so from the Products area.

Add a Text Item to an Order

Search for the text item by name in the Quick Pick panel, just as you would with any other product, and add it to the Order.

Edit the Text Item

Once added, click the arrow on the item line and select Edit from the dropdown menu.

This opens the Order Item edit screen, from here you can:

  • Overtype the name to describe the specific charge

  • Amend the dates to reflect the correct charging period

  • Enter the price for the item

When you are done, click Update Order Item to save and return to the Order overview.

Summary

Text items give you the freedom to charge for anything outside your standard catalogue without cluttering it with one-off products. A few quick edits and the item is ready to invoice alongside the rest of the Order.
