Fixed rates allow you to charge a single amount for rental or service items.
Normally, rental or service items will charge an ongoing recurring value for duration of a rental order period.
It might be that you agree a fixed (one off) charge for a piece of equipment (a rental product), or a service (see the services section) you provide to a customer that spans a time duration. This could be useful when doing a "job price".
This feature will help you take care of that business scenario.
The Setup
Head over to the System Setup > Rate Definitions area.
Then label the rate definition - note you can have more than one fixed rate definition if required.
Then choose the rate engine "Fixed Rate".
Now once that's setup and marked as active, you can use it to store rates against your products.
Setting up Default Rates
In the screenshot below, we are applying the fixed rate to an HGV driver service resource.
You can also set the Default Rate Definition on your service or product to ensure that this applies at all times by default.
Note you don't have to do this, as you can choose it from the Quick Pick or Order Items instead if you wanted to change it flexibly during the order process.
Processing the Order
Now you'll see when you add the service or product to the order, the fixed rate you set on your product or service will apply to the order.
On the document layouts it also says "Fixed" so that you and your customers know how the order items are being charged.
Amending the Fixed Rate value on a Draft Invoice
When you raise a draft invoice, you can also edit the fixed value, if required, before confirming the invoice.
