Accept orders where the customer pays according to your own instructions, for example, with a manual bank transfer.
This guide applies to store administrators with Go, Plus, or Pro. A custom payment method is manual. It does not charge a card, create an automatic bank transfer, or pay out money. The customer can complete the order without paying directly at checkout. You need to handle the payment basis and verify the payment yourself before processing the order according to your procedures.
1. Add the method
Go to Settings → Payment methods.
Select Custom payment method under Add a new payment method.
Click Add.
2. Describe how the customer should pay
Give the method a clear name, for example, Bank Transfer or Invoice.
Fill in the detailed description with the payment details the customer needs: recipient, correct account, how the payment should be referenced, and your payment terms. Do not enter passwords or secret bank details.
Check which customers the method should be available to. Limiting to specific customer groups requires that the feature is available for the store.
Check Active and click Save.
Check in the store's checkout that the method is displayed for the correct customers and that the instructions are understandable. A name like ”Invoice” does not in itself create an invoicing service or automatic debt collection.
3. Reconcile and register the payment
Verify the actual payment with your bank or in your accounting system. Reconcile the reference, amount, and order.
Open the relevant order in Abicart and its payment section.
For the manual payment transaction, select Mark as paid when the payment has been received and reconciled.
Check the order's payment status before proceeding with the delivery.
The marking registers the status in Abicart; it does not move money or certify that the bank has received it. If the order has been edited, also check that the transaction amount matches the remaining amount. Do not mark an incorrect transaction as paid to make a warning disappear.
If the action is missing, check that you have opened the correct payment transaction and that the method is manual. External payment providers may have other actions, such as activating a reservation. In that case, follow that payment provider's guide.
The difference between Invoice and an invoice provider
Abicart's manual option Invoice works in the same manual way as Custom payment method, with a preset name. It should not be confused with invoice payment through an external payment provider. If you want the payment to be handled automatically, choose a supported payment service and configure it with your own agreement.
Quick start
Add Custom payment method.
Write clear payment instructions.
Activate, save, and check the checkout.
Reconcile the actual payment and mark the correct transaction as paid.
Subscription and costs
Custom payment method is available in Go, Plus, and Pro. Restriction to customer groups requires customer group functionality, which is included in Plus and Pro. Costs and terms with your bank or other payment service are added according to your agreements.
