Choose and add payment methods

Discover how to easily add and set up Abicart's established payment solutions for your e-commerce. Read our guides for smooth payments.

Give customers a working way to pay and choose a solution that suits your customers, markets, and routines.

This guide applies to you if you administer payments in Abicart Go, Plus, or Pro. An external payment service normally requires a separate agreement and the correct account details from the provider. The methods available for your store are displayed under Settings → Payment methods.

1. Choose between a payment service and manual payment

A payment service, such as Kustom Checkout, Swedbank Pay, Stripe, or Swish, handles the payment through its service. Available payment methods, countries, currencies, business types, fees, and payouts depend on your agreement with the provider. The existence of a connection in Abicart does not mean that all these options are included in your agreement.

Custom payment method, Invoice and Advance payment are manual options. The customer can place an order without money being deducted at checkout. You provide payment instructions and reconcile the payment yourself. For example, calling a custom method "Swish" does not create an automatic Swish connection.

Compare the providers' current terms based on your customers' countries, currencies, and desired payment methods. Check both fixed fees and per-transaction fees. For a junior enterprise (UF-företag), for example, the provider needs to confirm that an agreement can be signed for that specific business type. A manual method does not mean that the bank's or payment service's costs disappear.

2. Add and configure the method

  1. Open Settings → Payment methods.

  2. Select a method under Add a new payment method and click Add.

  3. Fill in the provider's settings according to the guide for that specific method. Use the correct account and distinguish between test mode and live mode. Never share secret API details in the store's visible description.

  4. Give the method a clear name for the customer. Check any conditions for country, currency, purchase amount, and customer group.

  5. Activate the method and save when the configuration is complete.

In the payment method guides you will find the settings for each provider. Follow the specific guide for things like account connection, test mode, and how to activate or refund payments.

3. Check that the customer can pay

Open the store's checkout with a representative shopping cart and check that the correct method is displayed for the intended country, currency, and customer type. For an external payment service, follow the provider's test instructions before accepting live purchases. A method appearing in the list is not in itself proof that the agreement or the payment flow is working.

After a purchase, monitor the payment status on the order and, when necessary, in the provider's portal. Payout of funds occurs according to the agreement with the payment provider or bank; Abicart's order status is not a payout confirmation.

If the method is missing or not displayed at checkout

  • Missing from the list of new methods: check the exact provider name. Not all providers have a ready-made integration. Contact Abicart with your store ID and the desired method if you are unsure; do not choose another provider as a substitute for the one you have an agreement with.

  • Exists in admin but is missing at checkout: check Active, saved account details, and the method's limitations for the current customer and shopping cart.

  • Displayed as Not available: this is not the same as the method simply being disabled. Check the availability with Abicart before building on an older integration.

  • Error during payment: note the method, time, and error message, and check the provider's portal. Do not send any passwords, card details, or secret keys to support.

Quick start

  1. Choose a payment service or manual payment.

  2. Go to Settings → Payment methods and add the correct method.

  3. Fill in the agreement and account settings, activate, and save.

  4. Check the checkout and payment status according to the provider's test instructions.

Subscription and costs

Payment methods are available in Go, Plus, and Pro. The individual integration must be available for the store. Agreements, transaction fees, and payout terms with the payment provider are separate from the Abicart subscription.
