Google Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security to learner accounts. In addition to a password, a one-time 6-digit code from the Google Authenticator app is required to log in.
Even if your password becomes known to others, access to your account without this code is not possible.
How to enable Two-Factor Authentication
You can enable Google Two-Factor Authentication in your Academy’s Security Center:
https://app.academyocean.com/account/settings/academy/security
After enabling Google Two-Factor Authentication, the regular two-factor authentication will automatically be disabled.
Google Two-Factor Authentication is available for both learners and administrators. Key differences:
For learners:
Two-Factor Authentication is automatically enabled for all learners.
Learners cannot disable it on their own.
For administrators:
Two-Factor Authentication is mandatory.
Each administrator sets it up individually through their profile.
Administrators manage their Two-Factor Authentication settings personally.
How administrators can set up Two-Factor Authentication
To set up Two-Factor Authentication, an administrator should:
Go to Profile Settings.
Scroll down to the Security section.
Select Two-Factor Authentication, enable it, and proceed to the setup.
Next, you need to:
Scan the QR code in the Google Authenticator app;
Save the Recovery Code;
Enter your password to confirm the action.
After completing these steps, Two-Factor Authentication will be successfully activated, and your account will be securely protected 🔐
How it works for learners
Once Two-Factor Authentication is activated, each time a learner logs in:
They enter their password;
They see a field to enter a one-time 6-digit code from Google Authenticator;
After entering the code, they gain access to their account.
Emergency Recovery Key
Users can also create an Emergency Recovery Key in their profile.
This key can be used to restore access to the account if access to Google Authenticator is lost.
After creating a new Recovery Key, the previous key becomes invalid automatically.
