Scenario formats: Video-based and word-based

Casper scenarios may be presented in two formats: video-based or word-based. In both formats, you are given a situation followed by questions that ask how you would respond.

After reviewing the scenario, you will have an optional 30-second reflection period to think about your response before answering the questions. The way the scenario is presented is the main difference between the two formats.

The sections below explain what to expect in each type of scenario.

Video-based scenarios

Video-based scenarios are identified by a video icon at the top of the screen.

Each scenario includes:

  • A role prompt (e.g. “you are a friend,” “you are a co-worker”)

  • A short video scenario

  • An optional 30-second reflection period

  • A response page

  • A 10-second countdown before recording begins. The initial prompt indicating your role will be displayed again at the top of the page as a reminder during this countdown.

Word-based scenarios

Word-based scenarios are identified by a word-based scenario icon at the top of the screen.

Each scenario includes:

  • A written question, statement or scenario

  • An optional 30-second reflection period

  • A response page

Follow the instructions on screen to respond using the required response method (video or typed). Switching between formats is not allowed.

⚠️Use of speech-to-text tools is not permitted unless pre-approved under testing accommodations.
