What is the Format and Length of the Casper test?

Applicants for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle

For the 2025-2026 admissions cycle, the Casper test consists of 11 scenarios: a video response section with 4 scenarios, followed by a typed response section with 7 scenarios. The scenarios may be video-based or word-based scenarios, which are described further below.

1. Video Response Section:

  • This section contains 4 scenarios.

  • Each scenario includes 2 questions, which are presented one at a time.

  • You will have 1 minute to record your answer by video for each question.

2. Typed Response Section:

  • This section contains 7 scenarios.

  • Each scenario includes a set of 2 questions, presented all at once.

  • You will have 3.5 minutes to type your answers to each set of 2 questions.

The entire test is expected to take 65-85 minutes to complete. During the test, applicants will have the opportunity to take two optional breaks:

  • A 10-minute break after the 4 scenarios in the video response section, and

  • A 5-minute break after the first four typed response scenarios.

🇦🇺 Australian Teacher's Education applicants for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle

For applicants completing Casper for Australian Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teacher's Education programs in the 2025-2026 admissions cycle, the Casper test consists of 8 scenarios:

  • 2 Video Response scenarios. Each scenario includes 2 questions, which are presented one at a time, with 1 minute to record your answer by video for each question.

  • 6 Typed Response scenarios. Each scenario includes a set of 2 questions, presented all at once, with 3.5 minutes to type your answers to each set of 2 questions.

The test will take approximately 45-65 minutes to complete and will include one optional 10-minute break after the 2 video response scenarios.

Applicants for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle

For the 2024-2025 admissions cycle, the Casper test consists of 14 scenarios: a video response section with 6 scenarios, followed by a typed response section with 8 scenarios. The scenarios may be video-based or word-based scenarios.

For the scenarios in the video response section, you will be presented with a set of 2 questions, one at a time, and you will have 1 minute each to record your answer.

For the scenarios in the typed response section, you will have 5 minutes to respond to a set of 3 questions.

The entire test is expected to take 90-110 minutes to complete and applicants will be presented with 2 optional breaks:

  • an optional 10-minute break after the 6 scenarios in the video response section, and

  • an optional 5-minute break after the first four typed response scenarios.

🇦🇺 Australian Teacher's Education applicants for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle

For applicants completing Casper for Australian Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teacher's Education programs in the 2024-2025 admissions cycle, the Casper test consists of 8 scenarios:

  • 2 Video Response scenarios. Each scenario includes 2 questions, which are presented one at a time, with 1 minute to record your answer by video for each question.

  • 6 Typed Response scenarios. Each scenario includes a set of 3 questions, presented all at once, with 5 minutes to type your answers to each set of 3 questions.

The test will take approximately 50-70 minutes to complete and will include one optional 10-minute break after the 2 video response scenarios.


Video-based and Word-based Scenarios

This icon will appear at the top of the page for video-based scenarios:

Video-based scenarios will proceed in the following order:

  1. A prompt indicating your role in the following scene (e.g. “you are a friend”, “you are a colleague”, etc.)

  2. A short video scenario

  3. An optional 30-second reflection page for you to consider the scenario

  4. A response page

The initial prompt indicating your role will be displayed again at the top of the page as a reminder and you will be given 10 seconds to read the question before the recording starts.

Word-based scenarios will proceed in the following order:

  1. A question or statement to consider.

  2. An optional 30-second reflection page for you to consider the statement

  3. A response page

*All responses must be answered using the appropriate medium (i.e., you cannot choose to record a video in the typed response section and vice versa). Speech-to-text software is not permitted, unless you have been pre-approved for testing accommodations.
