How Can I Reduce No-Shows?

Having some problems with mentees not showing up? Here are some tips!

Updated over 3 months ago

We're really sorry to hear about having several no-shows.

We understand this can be frustrating and demotivating, especially because we know that mentors like you take time to prepare ahead of a session to ensure that you give your mentees nothing but a great experience.

Here are some tips to help prevent no-shows:

  1. Set Mentorship Prompts via Custom Questions: Customize your sessions with prompts that align with your expertise and preferences. This ensures mentees are clear on expectations, making it more likely they’ll show up prepared. How to set up custom questions can be found here.

  2. Turn off Auto-Accept: You can choose whether to auto-accept requests or manually review each mentee. Manual approval gives you more control over who books time with you and can help reduce no-shows. Instructions here.

  3. Check Attendance History: If a mentee has a low attendance rate (below 90%), you can send them a short message like:

*“Hi [Mentee Name], just confirming if you’ll be able to attend our session. I noticed your attendance rate is a bit low, and I want to be mindful of my time. Please let me know!”*

  4. Send a Friendly Reminder: A week and a day before the session, send a simple greeting message like, “Looking forward to our session!” This keeps the mentee engaged and serves as a reminder.

  5. Future Bookings: If a mentee no-shows but provides a valid explanation within 24 hours, consider accepting future requests. If not, feel free to cancel future bookings from them.

No-shows are rare, but they do happen. As mentors, your time is valuable, and it’s important that it’s respected. By personalizing your session requests, setting boundaries, and maintaining proactive communication with mentees, you can significantly reduce no-shows and create more meaningful, reliable connections.
