Writing Prompts for Successful Outputs

Define, outline, refine!

Updated over a week ago

Treat Aether like your clever, new teammate - the more detail you provide for your project, the better!

Use natural language to describe your output:

  • Define the objective and 'must include/exclude' content.

  • Outline the structure and key sections.

  • Refine your original prompt until you hone the output.

Prompting hack: prompt a prompt!

Crafting a great prompt can take time, but you can ask your favourite LLM to help.

  1. Navigate to your company-approved AI tool (for example, your company may have a subscription to Copilot, Gemini or ChatGPT).

  2. Upload an example of the type of document you want to produce using Aether.

  3. Use the prompt below to generate a best-practice prompt template.

  4. Add the resulting prompt template into Aether along with the context of your project, and your source files.

Copy and paste the prompt below into your LLM and customise the text in [CAPITALS]:

I'm attaching a [TYPE OF DOCUMENT]. Summarise the outline of this document into a prompt format so that I can use it to generate another, similar [TYPE OF DOCUMENT] for a different subject.

Be sure to include instructions on the key sections, approximate length of each section, and tone used.

How much detail do I need for a prompt?

Below is an example of a best practice prompt length to use in Aether to create a Knowledge Pack.

Create a comprehensive knowledge pack to consolidate all the insights we have on the topic of [TOPIC]

Focus ONLY on [TOPIC] and exclude [OTHER TOPIC]

The purpose is: onboard new teams to share a common understanding of the brand across [INTERNAL EMPLOYEES].

Add one initial summary slide as a "MUST KNOW" key points about [TOPIC].

Then, for each section below, create a subsection slide followed by 4 or 5 slides to summarise the available information.

1) The [TOPIC] category overview in the past 5 years, and the impact for [OUR COMPANY]

2) How do consumers view [TOPIC/COMPANY]?

3) Perception of [TOPIC] by [distribution partners, retailers etc]?

4) The portfolio overview, including:

- history of the [COMPANY]

- distinctive assets

- category entry points

- list of all products.

5) Existing competitor intelligence.
