On-slide Citations as Footnotes

Clear, editable attribution directly within your PowerPoint slides

Updated over a month ago

This feature automatically generates footnotes in your presentation template, making it easy to understand and trace the origin of content used in each slide.

When enabled, Aether uses AI to identify the source of the content on each slide. Citations will appear in the designated footnotes area of your PowerPoint template.

What’s Included in a Citation

Aether constructs the citation by ascertaining the most probable author and date of the source file. A standard citation includes:

  • Source Publisher/Author

  • Tidied Title (includes a hyperlink back to the source document)

  • Page/Cell Number of the referenced content

  • Published Date

Editing Citations

These citations are fully editable offline in PowerPoint. Once you export your document, you can adjust the text, formatting, or position of the footnotes just like any other text box in your slide deck.

Enabling or Disabling Citations

You have full control over whether citations appear in your output. You can toggle footnotes on or off for any piece, including presentations created in the past.

  1. Navigate to the Document Generation page for your specific output.

  2. Open the Advanced Options section (located in the right-hand pane).

  3. Toggle the On-slide Citations/Footnotes setting to your preferred state.

  4. If you are updating an existing deck, click Submit or Regenerate to apply the changes.

If you have more than five sources cited on one slide, Aether will add '+ more...' into the footnote to indicate more sources were used. You can always view all the sources behind each slide on the Aether platform.

Future Improvements

We are continuously working to improve how Aether handles metadata, especially for files where the author or date is not immediately clear to the LLM.
