Checking the sources used in your document

Pin-point accurate citations across all your documents

Updated over a month ago

After Aether generates a new output, there are two ways to understand which sources were used and where the content came from:

  1. Quick check - view on-slide citations and footnotes in the presentation

  2. Detailed review - explore sources slide-by-slide in the Document Builder

Both approaches are useful depending on whether you want a high-level reference or a deep audit of the underlying material.

Option 1: Quick Source Checks with Citations & Footnotes

The fastest way to check sources is via on-slide citations and footnotes in your presentation.

When this feature is enabled, Aether automatically identifies which sources contributed to each slide and displays citations directly in the footnotes area of your PowerPoint template.

This is ideal when you want to:

  • Quickly confirm where content came from

  • Share a referenced deck with colleagues or clients

  • Review sources without opening the Document Builder

How to enable or view citations:

  1. Open your output in the Document Builder

  2. In the right-hand pane, expand Advanced Options

  3. Toggle On-slide Citations / Footnotes on

  4. Click Submit or Regenerate to apply

Once enabled, citations will appear on each slide in the exported PowerPoint or PDF.
If more than five sources are referenced on a slide, Aether will display “+ more…” to indicate additional sources were used.

Option 2: Deep-Dive Source Review in the Document Builder

For a more detailed view of sources, including exactly where content was pulled from, use the Sources view in the Document Builder.

You can access this page by:

  • Opening an existing output from your library, or

  • Clicking a shared link from a colleague

Navigating to the Sources

The document preview page is split into three panes. Use the arrow icons on either side of the middle pane to expand/contract views.

On the Left-hand Pane you will see the Outline of each slide and a section to toggle to view the Sources behind each slide.

Navigate to view Sources

This tab shows an editable list of the sources used to create your output.

Deep dive to see the specific source page or cell range: Further click 'View' on the thumbnail of the document in the source preview to see the exact page/tab within the document.

Removing sources: Toggle the yellow slider off; Aether will adjust affected slides.

Adding sources for fine-toothed comb reading: Add specific document/s for Aether to include as a source in the output document by clicking the '+ document' icon at the top of the source tab.

Documents added in this way are ingested and referenced in a more detailed way than those referenced through the normal workflow - imagine this is like reading through a source file with a fine-toothed comb. Aether will focus more on these source documents than others. You can:

  • Select existing document/s from the sources folder.

  • Upload new document/s from your computer for Aether to read, add to Aether’s vector database, and integrate into the new output.

Coming soon: Summaries as an appendix slide.
