Safer Together Medical Assessment Change
KINNECT will be adopting the revised Safer Together Fitness to Work Medical assessment Guideline from 1 August 2025, following the national update released
in December 2024.
This update delivers several key improvements that focus on clinical relevance, efficiency, and consistency across the oil, gas, and energy production sectors.
What’s Changing & Why it Matters
No Routine ECG & Reduced Pathology
The new guideline removes the requirement for routine ECG tests and limits the standard pathology panel. This change maintains safety while reducing cost and inconvenience for clients and workers, as unnecessary tests are eliminated.
Improved Screening for Sleep Apnoea
A STOP-BANG questionnaire has been integrated into the medical assessment process to better screen for obstructive sleep apnoea risk. Early identification of sleep health issues helps protect worker well-being and safety on the job, aligning with industry best practices in fatigue management.
The STOP-BANG questionnaire is only applicable for mobile plant operators and shift workers (including crane operators and non-commercial vehicle drivers (Section 8.2).
Updated Fit Slip Sign-Offs
The Fit Slip sign-off workflow has been updated with clear sign-off levels to ensure appropriate medical oversight while enabling quicker mobilisation of workers, while meeting all compliance requirements. Workers’ fitness categories (e.g. Fit, Fit with Conditions, Temporarily Unfit) remain in place.
KINNECT Doctors will still complete all sign-offs.
