It is a KINNECT and legislative requirement that spirometry is completed to A or B quality standards.

If an applicant cannot successfully complete an initial Session Quality Spirometry (A or B Quality), then please follow this process:

  1. The applicant may have up to two separate Spirometry Sessions (with a minimum 10-minute break in between sessions using a different clinician to assess if possible). Furthermore, each Spirometry session may not exceed 8 trials to achieve A or B quality testing. It is important that clinicians give the applicants every opportunity to achieve a high-quality reliable spirometry session to avoid the need to be rebooked.

  1. Occasionally, obtaining acceptable and repeatable results takes time and effort, despite repeated instruction. If A or B quality cannot be obtained, consideration for repeating testing on another occasion may be appropriate.

  1. After two unsuccessful separate Spirometry session attempts (i.e. not obtaining an A or B quality), a written notation must be made in the respiratory section of the Carelever form or general comments section of the medical assessment.
