Extension Visibility & Permissions for AI Test Case Generator in Azure DevOps

To use the AI Test Case Generator effectively in Azure DevOps, users need the correct access level and project permissions. This ensures visibility of settings and the ability to generate test cases — both individually and in bulk.

Updated this week

Recommended Access Level & Permissions

To access project settings and generate test cases, users need:

  • Access Level: Basic + Test Plans

  • Project Role: Project Administrator or Contributor

Here’s how to verify user access:

  1. Go to Organization Settings → Users to confirm the access level

  2. In the project, go to Project Settings → Permissions

  3. Add users to either the Project Administrators or Contributors group

Once added, users can generate test cases from individual user stories or in bulk.

How to Generate Test Cases as an Admin or Contributor

  • Open a User Story

  • Ensure the Generate Test Cases button is visible

  • Click to create test cases — a success message will appear once complete

Admins can also manage team access easily by assigning the right roles in the Permissions section.

Who Can’t Generate Test Cases

Users with the following roles won’t see the settings or the “Generate Test Cases” button:

  • Basic access (without Test Plans)

  • Stakeholder access

These users will also see a permissions error if they attempt to run bulk operations.

Firewall Notice: Ensure your network admin allows access to *.bakeqa.com — otherwise you may encounter errors like “Failed to fetch.”
