This guide will walk you through each step—from setting your theme and logo to customizing your popup design and adding key actions like rewards and opt-ins. Let’s get started!

Start by clicking on “Build” to create a new popup from scratch. We also have the option to import an existing popup if you already have one in the account that we want to import. For now, we’ll stick to creating a new one.

Step 1: Choose a template

Once you click on “Build” to create a new popup, you’ll be prompted to choose a template for your popup from our template library

Once done, click “Next”.

Step 2: Customizing Your Popup Theme

The Theme step allows you to customize the look and feel of your popup to match your brand. Here's how to personalize it:

1. Choose Your Brand Colors

  • Update your Text, Background, Accent, and Accent Foreground colors using hex codes.

  • You can use your brand’s default colors or click “Add a color…” to create a custom one.

2. Adjust Border Radius

  • Set the corner rounding of your popup elements by entering a pixel value.

  • For a subtle rounded look, try values like 4px.

3. Select Fonts

  • Choose your Display font and Body font from your brand's font library.

  • Popular picks like Sora and Nunito give your popup a clean, modern aesthetic.

  • You can also click “Add a font…” to import a custom one.

4. Preview Your Changes

  • Use the Mobile and Desktop toggle in the upper right corner to preview how your popup will appear on different devices.

Once your theme looks good, click Next step to continue setting up your popup.

Step 3: Uploading Your Logo

Adding your logo to your popup helps reinforce your brand identity and builds trust with visitors. Here's how to do it:

1. Upload Your Logo

  • In the Logo step, click Upload logo on the left side.

  • Choose your image file (ideally a transparent PNG or SVG for best results).

Once uploaded, the logo will automatically appear at the top of your popup preview on the right.

2. Preview on Mobile and Desktop

  • Use the Mobile/Desktop toggle to check how your logo displays across devices.

  • If your logo isn’t clearly visible due to the background, consider adjusting the theme colors in the previous step.

That’s it! Once you’re happy with your logo placement, click Next step to continue building your popup.

Step 4: Adding a Floating Button

The floating button is a small, dismissible call-to-action that remains visible after the popup is closed—making it easy for visitors to reopen it if they change their mind.

1. Choose the Button Position

From the dropdown on the left, select where you'd like the button to appear on your storefront:

  • Bottom left (default)

  • Bottom right

  • Left wall

  • Right wall

You'll see a live preview of your selection on the right side.

2. Avoid Disabling It

While you can choose “No floating button”, this is not recommended. Without it, users won’t have a way to reopen the popup after closing it.

💡 Tip: The floating button text (e.g., Get 10% off) is automatically pulled from your popup offer but can be customized later in settings.

Once you're satisfied with the button placement, click Next Step to proceed.

Step 5: Set Up the First Step

The First Step is where you start the user journey—asking an engaging question that collects insights while boosting conversions.

Why it matters

This step helps you gather zero-party data—information your visitors willingly share. It not only personalizes the experience but can also be sent directly to your integrations for better segmentation.

Recommended Option: Mini Quiz

This format has the highest signup rate. In this example, the brand asks:

"Who are you shopping for today?"

With two answer options:

  • Myself

  • Someone else

This simple question makes the experience feel conversational and user-friendly, increasing the chances of participation.

Other options available include:

  • Spin to win: Adds gamification but gives the same reward.

  • Micro commitment: Asks for small confirmations before showing the offer.

  • None (not recommended): Skips straight to signup, which usually converts less.

Once your question is set, click Next step to proceed to the email and phone capture screen.

Step 6: Collect Email and Phone Number

After engaging visitors with your first question, it’s time to capture their contact info to deliver their reward.

📩 What’s collected?

In this step, you can collect only Email or Email and SMS both ****depending on your marketing strategies.

⚙️ SMS Compliance Settings

To enable SMS, you must provide:

  • A default country code

  • A link to your Terms of Service

  • A link to your Privacy Policy

These details ensure your popup remains compliant with texting regulations (TCPA, GDPR, etc.).

💡 Layering SMS after email helps qualify more engaged leads and improves deliverability through multiple channels.

Click Next step to set up the reward logic.

Step 7: Configure the Reward

Now that you’ve collected the visitor’s contact info, it’s time to deliver the reward you promised — in this case, a discount.

🎁 What are your reward options?

You can choose one of the following:

  • Unique Code

A one-time-use discount code generated for each user.

Ideal for preventing code abuse and tracking individual redemptions.

  • Static Code

A single reusable code, like GET10, shown to all users.

Great for simplicity and consistent branding.

  • No Code

If you’re offering something other than a discount — like free content or early access — or if you’re manually sending the reward later.

Step 8: Choose How Customers Will Opt In

This step determines when the discount reward is revealed and how consent is handled — especially important for SMS compliance.

✍️ Opt-in Options

  • Single Opt-in (Selected by default)

The reward (e.g., discount code) is shown immediately after the customer signs up.

    • Ideal for a seamless user experience.

    • Recommended for Klaviyo and most other email providers.

  • Double Opt-in

Users must confirm their signup (e.g., via a confirmation email or SMS) before receiving the reward.

    • Adds an extra compliance layer, especially useful for SMS.

    • Recommended for Postscript and Attentive.

💡 You must still configure single or double opt-in within your email/SMS provider. Selecting the option here is to maximize signups to your lists depending on which setting you have configured in your email/SMS provider.

Step 9: Add Customer Education (Optional)

This step lets you extend the popup experience by educating customers post-opt-in — and rewarding them for engaging.

🎓 Education Options

  • No Education (Selected by default)

The popup ends after the reward is delivered. No additional engagement or content is offered.

  • Tracks

Add an optional, branded learning journey that customers can complete after the popup.

    • Explain your product benefits, mission, or unique ingredients.

    • Offer a bigger reward (e.g., 20% off instead of 10%) as an incentive to complete the track.

    • Boost brand awareness, reduce objections, and build deeper trust.

💡Use Tracks to turn curious visitors into educated, loyal customers — especially if your product needs a bit of explaining or has strong differentiation.

Step 10: Make Your Campaign Live

Once your popup is designed and ready, it's time to launch it on your store!

How to Publish Your Popup:

  1. Go to the Campaigns Dashboard – You’ll see all your saved campaigns.

  2. Find Your Campaign – Locate the one you want to publish.

  3. Click the Draft button or the Dropdown next to it

  4. Select "Go Live" – This will activate the popup on your store.

💡 Tip: You can also schedule the campaign, set up A/B tests, or edit targeting before going live.

Once live, your popup will start appearing to visitors based on your targeting settings!
