Alia allows you to offer three types of rewards within your campaigns. Each one comes with different setup requirements and customization options.
🏷️ Types of Rewards
You can choose from the following reward types:
Static Code
Unique Discount Code
Free Shipping - Free Gift (via 100% discount)
1. Static Code
Static codes are generic and shared across all users (e.g., GET15). These codes must be created directly in Shopify by the brand. The merchant is responsible for defining all relevant discount settings in Shopify (e.g., value, eligible products, expiration).Static codes can also be used creatively to simulate free gifts by setting a 100% discount on a specific product, encouraging tailored customer interaction. For consistency, it's crucial to ensure all static codes in Alia match exactly with their counterparts in Shopify, including the code itself, discount percentage, and expiration date. If these parameters aren't aligned, the static code may not function properly at checkout.
2. Unique Discount Code
These are one-time use codes that are generated by Alia within Shopify. All Alia-generated codes have the prefix AL and are governed by settings configured directly in Alia.Unique Discount Codes are also well-suited for free gift campaigns, enabling merchants to limit their application to specific products for tailored offerings. The automation of dynamic codes streamlines the discount setup process, especially for campaigns requiring unique codes for each user, eliminating the hassle of manual code creation.
⚠️ Important: Always double-check these settings before going live. Ensure that static codes in Alia exactly match their Shopify configurations, including parameters like discount type, usage limits, and expiration dates, to avoid any issues during checkout.
When using this option, you can choose between two types of discount values:
Percentage (e.g., 15% off)
Fixed Amount (e.g., $10 off)
3. Free Shipping Code
Like unique discount codes, free shipping codes are one-time use and generated within Shopify by Alia. The same rule applies regarding internal settings—everything is managed in the Alia editor.
🛠️ Reward Settings Overview
Each reward (discount or shipping) can be customized on the Discounts Page within Alia. Here’s what each setting means: Rewards in Alia integrate both static and dynamic discount codes, with static codes requiring pre-creation in Shopify and dynamic codes being automatically generated within Alia.
1. Applicable Items
Define which collections or products the discount applies to. If no items are selected, the discount won't apply to anything. For example, you can restrict the discount to ensure that it applies only to a specific product used as a free gift.
2. Expires After
Set a countdown timer. When it reaches 0, the discount code will automatically expire and become unusable.
3. Minimum Requirement
Choose a minimum cart total required for the discount to apply.
4. Combines With Other Discounts
Shopify supports three types of discounts:
Order
Product
Shipping
You can configure Alia codes to be combinable with any or all of these.
5. Applies on Subscriptions
Enable this setting if the code should work for subscription purchases. Note: this will only apply to the first order in the subscription.
6. Custom Qualifier Text
This is the small subtitle shown under the discount (e.g., “Valid on tees only”). Use this if the discount only applies to specific products or collections.
7. Show Discount Code Instead of Apply Button
This disables the auto-apply functionality. The user will be shown the code instead of having it applied to checkout.
💡 It is recommended to only use this only for headless or non-Shopify setups.
8. Require Opt-In to Reveal Discount Code
Enables a small copy change at the end of the learning flow, prompting shoppers to check their email or phone for the discount code.
📝 This is not used when the reward is shown in a popup.
9. Redirect User When Discount Is Applied
Automatically redirects the shopper to another page after they claim their reward.
💡Always preview the reward experience and settings inside Alia and confirm the flow is working before pushing live. Small configuration differences (like product applicability or combinability) can affect whether a discount actually works for shoppers.
