One of the most powerful ways to personalize your email experience is by branching your Welcome Flow based on shopper quiz or survey responses collected through Alia.
Using Alia, you can capture zero-party data at signup, then use that data inside Klaviyo to send shoppers down entirely different Welcome Flow paths, each tailored to their specific needs, preferences, or intent.
This article walks through how to set that up and best practices to follow.
How Flow Splits Work with Alia Data
When a shopper completes an Alia mini-quiz or survey:
Each answer is saved as a profile property in Klaviyo
These properties are immediately available for flow logic
You can route subscribers into different paths based on their responses
Instead of sending the same emails to everyone, you can deliver custom onboarding experiences from the very first touchpoint.
When to Use a Flow Split
Flow splits work especially well when quiz answers meaningfully change:
The education a shopper needs
The products you should recommend
The objections you need to overcome
Common split examples include:
Skin type or skin concern
Hair goals or hair texture
Product usage intent (daily use vs treatment)
Shopping intent (gift vs personal use)
Experience level (beginner vs advanced)
How to Split a Welcome Flow Based on Quiz Answers
Step 1: Open Your Welcome Flow in Klaviyo
Navigate to Flows → Welcome Series and open the flow you want to personalize.
Step 2: Add a Conditional Split
Drag in a Conditional Split block
Choose Properties about someone
Select the quiz property sent by Alia
(e.g.Primary Concern,Skin Type,Routine Goal)
⚠️ Property names must match the Alia field name exactly.
Step 3: Define Your Paths
Set rules based on specific quiz responses.
Example:
If
Primary ConcernequalsAcne→ Path AElse → Path B
You can also:
Stack multiple values in one path
Add multiple splits in sequence for deeper personalization
Step 4: Customize Each Path’s Emails
Each path can now have:
Different messaging
Different education
Different product recommendations
Different timing or number of emails
At this point, each shopper is receiving a Welcome Flow built specifically for them.
Example Welcome Flow Split Structure
A common setup looks like this:
Split: Primary Concern
Path A – Acne
Education-first email
Ingredient breakdowns
Targeted product set
Path B – Dry / Sensitive
Barrier-repair education
Gentler product recommendations
Trust-building content
From here, you can add additional splits later in the flow if needed — but even one split can dramatically improve performance.
Best Practices for Flow Splits
Start with one high-impact split before adding complexity
Avoid splitting on low-signal or “nice-to-have” questions
Always include a clear fallback path
Keep paths meaningful — each should feel intentional, not cosmetic
If two paths end up looking very similar, they probably don’t need to be split.
