Octo’s Latest Touch-Ups

After some time in the making, here are the improvements we’ve been working on over the past few weeks. This release brings a smoother allocator experience, better AWS forecasting, and a simpler, more accessible sidebar. These changes are designed to make managing costs easier and more efficient for you.

Let’s take a look at what’s in this release!

🆕Improved Cost Allocation’s Allocator Experience

We've heard your feedback and made some major improvements to the Cost Allocation feature to make it more intuitive and easier to use. This update focuses on enhancing the allocator creation process for the Discount Plan type, while Cost Usage and Fees will be coming in the next update—so stay tuned!

What's New?

  • New Tables for Visibility: We've added a new table in Discount Allocation that lets you quickly visualize and select the items you want to allocate, based on your chosen discount type, term length, and other settings.

  • Easier Target Selection: When you're setting the allocation target, you'll now see a complete list of accounts. This new display helps you easily visualize and select the target accounts for your allocation, whether you're distributing costs with a fixed percentage or proportionally based on usage.

These changes are designed to help you set up cost allocations with greater ease and confidence. The core functionality, including the allocator naming and preview settings, remains the same.

🆕Forecasting Improvements for AWS

We’ve enhanced our cost forecasting for AWS to provide more accurate and reliable projections.

What’s new:

  • Improved handling of recurring monthly charges (e.g., support fees) so they are always reflected in forecasts.

  • Smarter detection of billing patterns, such as monthly spikes and weekday trends.

  • More stable daily forecasts, avoiding unrealistically low values on quiet days.

Benefits for you:

  • Forecasts now better align with actual historical billing behavior.

  • Increased accuracy around the start of each month.

  • More trustworthy predictions to support budgeting and planning.

🆕Simpler, More Accessible Sidebar

We’re rolling out the initial changes to the UI for a cleaner, more streamlined experience. The sidebar has been reorganized for easier navigation—everything that used to be hidden under the “More” button is now grouped in the sidebar, so you can access all sections more quickly.
