ℹ️ As of February 25, 2025, we've introduced two key updates to ELD integrations. First, we now validate credentials before saving, so you’ll instantly know if they’re incorrect, eliminating confusion. Second, the integration card UI has been revamped for clearer status indicators and a more streamlined deactivation process. These improvements aim to make managing integrations faster and more straightforward.
To begin setting up your integration with Samsara, please make sure you have your subsidiaries setup first. Then, follow the instructions below to integrate with Samsara.
Part 1: Generate a Samsara API token
From within Samsara, please navigate to the Settings page, then find API Tokens and click "Add an API Token".
Name the token "Alvys" in order to easily identify it.
In Scopes/Global, please make sure that you have selected the Global Read checkbox.
All of the following 'Granular Scope' permissions must be enabled when generating the API token:
Read ELD Compliance Settings (US)
Read IFTA (US)
Read Equipment
Read Trailers
Read Vehicle Statistics
Read Equipment Statistics (this one has to be on to get sensor data)
Part 2: Configure the Samsara API token within Alvys
Navigate to Integrations and find Samsara under the ELD tab. Click the blue Integrate button, then the Add Integration pop-up window will appear.
In the Add Integration window, use the drop-down menu to find and select Samsara.
Next, copy and paste the API token from Samsara into the API Key field.
Select which subsidiaries Samsara will be used for. If it will be used for all subsidiaries, select the checkbox for "All Subsidiaries".
Click the blue Save button.
Part 3: Add the Samsara asset ID to individual assets within Alvys
Before beginning part 3, you'll need to have your trucks and/or trailers set up in the Alvys system.
Find the Assets option in the left menu, then select either trucks or trailers (depending on what you need to set up).
From the list of assets, find and double click the particular asset you are ready to assign. This will open the Edit Asset page.
On the asset page, scroll down to find the ELD Integrations section, then click the blue Add Integration button. Then, the Add Integration pop-up window will appear.
In the Add Integration window, click the drop-down menu and select Samsara.
Next, find the Samsara asset ID (which can be found in the hyperlink of the asset when viewing it within Samsara), then paste it into the Integration ID field in the Add Integration window.

FOR TRAILERS: only fill in the Asset ID. Sensor ID should be left blank. Once you type in your Asset ID, our system will connect all associated external sensors, including temperature, door sensors, etc.
6. Click the blue Save button. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for the rest of your Samsara trucks and/or trailers. After you've completed this step for applicable assets, then you're done! Great job!
