Match: Find and Fix Marketplace Content Mismatches

Use Match to compare your PXM content with your marketplace backend and live product pages, then find and fix mismatches.

Written by Sean Bentley

Match shows whether the product content you manage in Pattern PXM is what shoppers actually see on the marketplace. For each product, Match lines up three versions of your content side by side, scores how closely they agree, and points you to the exact attributes that don't match.

Screenshots in this article show a pre-release view; your screen may differ slightly.

Use Match to spot listings where your content didn't land, where the marketplace is showing something different, and which fixes will make the biggest difference to your catalog.

Before you start

  • Availability: Match is turned on by Pattern for your account. Availability can vary by account; check with your Pattern CSM.

  • Access: Match is available to users with the Admin role. Actions that change content, such as Sync to PXM, also need write access to Match. If you can't see Match in the left navigation, ask your PXM admin to check your role (see User Roles and Permissions in Pattern PXM).

  • Marketplaces: Match covers Amazon US, UK, DE, ES, IT, FR, NL and BE, and Walmart US. Each marketplace is scored separately. If a marketplace you sell on isn't listed, check with your Pattern CSM.

  • Setup: your marketplace account must be connected to PXM, the marketplace needs at least one active API channel template with the scored attributes mapped (see Channel & Marketplace Templates in PXM), and your marketplace listings must be linked to your PXM products (see Link your listings to products below). On Walmart US, Match turns on after you have an active Walmart US channel template with the scored fields mapped. This can take up to a day, and products usually appear within a few hours after Match turns on.

  • Timing: Match compares your content once a day and always shows the most recent completed check. Changes you make today usually show in Match the next day. After first setup, allow a day or two for your listings and scores to appear.

How Match works

Match compares three versions of each product's content:

  • PXM: your Pattern PXM product content, as it's mapped on your channel template. In the product view, this is the PXM column (the first value column).

  • Marketplace Backend: what your connected seller or vendor account has stored, for example in Seller Central or Vendor Central.

  • Live on Marketplace: what the public product page shows shoppers.

Match is a comparison tool, not a syndication report. A low score doesn't mean a syndication failed, and a successful syndication doesn't guarantee a perfect score. Match tells you where the gap is so you know what to fix.

The three Match Scores

  • PIM to Live: your PXM content compared with the live product page. This is the headline score: how well your content shows where shoppers see it.

  • PIM to Marketplace Backend: your PXM content compared with your marketplace backend. A low score here usually means your PXM content hasn't reached the marketplace yet.

  • Marketplace Backend to Live: your marketplace backend compared with the live product page. A low score here means your content reached the backend but something different is showing on the live page. That's usually a marketplace issue rather than a PXM one.

Each card shows the change since the previous day. The Match score trend chart shows how all three scores have moved over the date range you choose.

How scores are calculated

  • Each scored attribute that matches adds its weight to the product's score. Title and Description carry the most weight, followed by Bullets 1 to 5, Brand, Manufacturer and image count. On Amazon US, Item Highlight is also scored, and it carries the third-largest weight after Title and Description. On other marketplaces it can be shown but isn't scored.

  • Some attributes, such as color, size, quantity, variations, dimensions and price, are compared and shown but don't change the score. These appear under Non-scored attributes.

  • On Walmart US Marketplace (3P) listings, variant group ID and is primary variant (Yes = parent) appear under Non-scored attributes. Walmart doesn't provide live-page data for these, so they're compared between PXM and the Marketplace Backend only, and the live comparisons show as matched.

  • Your overall scores are weighted by each product's page views over the last 30 days, so a mismatch on a high-traffic product moves your score more than the same mismatch on a low-traffic product.

  • Match compares text exactly. A one-character difference counts as a mismatch, for example a missing symbol, straight versus curly quotes, broken characters such as ’ in place of an apostrophe, or a shortened title. Differences in capitalization or spacing may also count.

  • Empty attributes in PXM keep a product's score low until they're filled in.

  • Scoring can be different on Walmart, and weights can change over time as scoring is refined.

Find products with mismatches

  1. Open Match from the left navigation.

  2. Choose the marketplace in the dropdown at the top right, for example Amazon US.

  3. Review the three Match Score cards and the Match score trend chart.

  4. Open the MISMATCHES tab to see products with a mismatch on at least one scored attribute.

  5. Click a column heading such as IMPACT or PAGE VIEWS to sort the list, and start with the products where a fix will make the biggest difference.

  6. Click DETAILS on a product to see exactly which attributes don't match.

To find a specific product, type in Search Products with match issues. You can search by title, SKU, ASIN, listing ID or master product ID.

The three tabs

  • MISMATCHES: products with at least one mismatch on a scored attribute. These affect your score.

  • MATCHES: products with no mismatches on any attribute.

  • NON-SCORED MISMATCHES: products whose only mismatches are on non-scored attributes, such as size or color. These don't affect your score but may still be worth fixing.

What the columns mean

  • PRODUCT: the product's image, title and ASIN (or Walmart item ID), with a link to the live product page.

  • LISTING STATUS: the marketplace status of the listing, such as Buyable, Discoverable, Out of stock or Suppressed, if your account shows it. This helps you tell a content mismatch apart from a listing that's out of stock or suppressed.

  • IMPACT: how much the product's mismatches affect your overall score compared with the other products in the list. More filled bars mean a bigger impact. High-traffic products with mismatches show the highest impact.

  • PIM TO LIVE, PIM TO MARKETPLACE BACKEND and MARKETPLACE BACKEND TO LIVE: the product's three scores. PIM to Live also shows the change since the previous day.

  • PAGE VIEWS: the product's page views over the last 30 days.

  • DAYS UNMATCHED: how many days the product has had mismatches.

  • ISSUE SUMMARY: the attributes that don't match. The first two are shown, and +N more tells you how many others there are.

  • LAST ACTION: the most recent Match action on the product, such as a publish or export, with who took it and when.

Filter the list

Click FILTERS at the top right to narrow the list. Filters apply to the product list, the tab counts and the Match Score cards.

  • Display Raw Score: shows a simple, unweighted score (how many attributes match out of how many are compared) instead of the weighted score. It's useful for troubleshooting, but the weighted score is the one to track.

  • Status: choose ALL, NEEDS CASES or NEEDS PUBLISH (shown as NEEDS SYNDICATION on some accounts). See Fix mismatches below for what each one means.

  • Listing Status: show only listings with a given marketplace status. This filter may not appear on every account.

  • Lightbox: show only products in the lightboxes you choose, including shared lightboxes (see Lightboxes).

  • Match Score Percentage: show products with a score greater than (>), greater than or equal to (≥), less than (<) or less than or equal to (≤) the percentage you set.

  • Attributes With Issues: show only products with mismatches on the attributes you choose, for example only Title mismatches.

  • Folders: show only products in the PXM folders you choose.

Click APPLY FILTER to update the list, or RESET FILTERS to clear them. Your filters stay in place when you open a product and come back to the list.

You can save a filter set with CREATE FILTER.

Tip: to keep an eye on your most important products, add them to a PXM folder or lightbox, then filter by it (see Creating a Folder Structure).

Review a product

Click DETAILS on any product row to open its Match view.

  • Left panel: the product's SKU, ASIN or Walmart item ID (linked to the live product page), page views, its three scores and listing status.

  • Banner: how many attributes in PXM and the marketplace backend don't match what's live on the marketplace, and when Match last checked the product. Click VIEW ACTION HISTORY to see Match actions on the product, such as publishes and cases opened, with who took each one and when.

  • Chart: how the product's PIM to Live score has changed over the date range you choose.

  • Comparison table: each attribute with its value in the PXM column, MARKETPLACE BACKEND and LIVE ON MARKETPLACE, grouped into Scored attributes and Non-scored attributes. Mismatched values are shaded red.

See exactly what's different

Turn on Show Diff Highlights to compare values word by word:

  • Red text in parentheses is in PXM but missing from the marketplace value. Publishing from PXM sends it to the marketplace.

  • Highlighted text is on the marketplace but not in PXM. If PXM is right, publish from PXM. If the marketplace is right, use Sync to PXM.

If your Amazon listing has A+ content, the Description row may show a notice asking you to check the listing where A+ content is displayed, rather than a simple mismatch.

Check an attribute's change history

Click the ⋮ menu on an attribute row and choose Change History to see how that attribute's value has changed over time. A change marked User Initiated means the new marketplace value matches PXM and the backend; any other change shows as External Change. Match compares values only, so it can't tell you who made a change or how.

Download or share the product

The icons at the bottom of the left panel include Download Product and Share Product. These act on the PXM product, not on a Match report.

Fix mismatches

The fix depends on where the gap is. Use the Status filter to group products by the kind of fix they need.

Your content hasn't reached the marketplace (NEEDS PUBLISH or NEEDS SYNDICATION)

The NEEDS PUBLISH filter shows products whose PXM content doesn't match your marketplace backend. This means the content in PXM hasn't landed on the marketplace yet.

  1. Open the product's DETAILS and check that the PXM values are the ones you want live.

  2. If anything in PXM needs fixing, update it in PXM first.

  3. Click PUBLISH TO AMAZON (or your marketplace's publish button) to send your PXM content to the marketplace. This opens the usual publish flow, and the publish is recorded in the product's action history. You can also publish from Syndicate as normal (see the Amazon guide or the Walmart guide).

  4. Check Match again after the next daily check.

The backend matches, but the live page doesn't (NEEDS CASES)

The NEEDS CASES filter shows products whose PXM content and marketplace backend already match, but the live product page shows something different. This is usually decided by the marketplace, for example when other content is winning on the product page, so it isn't something PXM can change directly.

  1. Check the listing's health on the marketplace, for example whether it's out of stock or suppressed, and fix anything you find.

  2. Try updating or publishing the product again. Sometimes that's enough for your content to show on the live page.

  3. If the live page still doesn't change, open a case with the marketplace. If your account shows Open Case with Amazon on the product, use it to go to Seller Central or Vendor Central. Otherwise, contact your Pattern CSM.

The marketplace is right and PXM is wrong (Sync to PXM)

Sometimes the marketplace has the content you want and PXM is out of date, for example after content was edited directly on the marketplace. In that case, use SYNC TO PXM in the product's Match view.

Sync to PXM pulls the selected attribute values into PXM, from either Marketplace Backend or Live on Marketplace. If a marketplace attribute is mapped to more than one PXM attribute, it shows Needs Resolution: choose which PXM attribute to update before you sync. You'll be asked to confirm before PXM values are replaced.

Important: Sync to PXM replaces the existing PXM values for the attributes you choose, and you can't undo it from Match. It only updates PXM; it doesn't publish anything to the marketplace. Use it for text attributes, not images.

Tip: if PXM has broken text (for example, odd characters from an import) and the marketplace text is correct, use Sync to PXM first. Don't publish to the marketplace until PXM is fixed, or the broken text will go live. If the broken text came from an import file, fix the file too so it doesn't come back.

Export match data

  1. On any tab, select the checkbox next to each product you want, or select the checkbox in the header to select every product in the current list.

  2. Click EXPORT at the bottom right. The button shows how many products you've selected.

  3. Match downloads a spreadsheet (.xlsx) with each product's scores and its PXM, backend and live values.

If you export more than about 1,000 products, the file is emailed to you when it's ready instead of downloading straight away.

Link your listings to products

Match can only score a product once its marketplace listing is linked to the PXM product. Listings that aren't linked yet wait in the Unassociated Listings folder, and Match doesn't score them.

  1. In the left folder tree, open Unassociated Listings.

  2. To link one listing, open its row and choose the PXM product.

  3. To link many listings at once, click Auto associate.

  4. Choose the Channel. Auto associate works one channel at a time.

  5. Choose the PXM attribute that holds the listing's primary ID. On Amazon, this should be the ASIN.

  6. Run it, then repeat for each channel. Linked products appear in Match after the next daily check.

Auto associate only links listings whose primary ID exactly matches the value in the PXM attribute you choose. If you're not sure which attribute to use, check with your Pattern CSM.

Tips for better scores

  • Map every scored attribute on your channel template. Unmapped attributes show as blank in Match.

  • Use one PXM attribute for each concept on a channel. If Brand or Manufacturer is mapped to two different attributes, Match can compare the wrong values.

  • Fill in empty attributes in PXM, especially Title and Description.

  • Look closely at text that seems identical. Symbols, quotes, extra characters and shortened titles all count as mismatches.

  • Keep PXM as the place you edit content, then publish to the marketplace. Editing in both places makes them drift apart.

  • Focus on high-impact, high-traffic products first. They move your score the most.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my score low even though my syndication succeeded?

Check the PIM to Marketplace Backend and Marketplace Backend to Live scores. If your content reached the backend but the live page shows something else, the gap is on the marketplace side. Use the NEEDS CASES steps above.

I fixed an attribute today. Why hasn't my score changed?

Match checks your content once a day. Your change should show after the next daily check, usually the next day.

The text looks identical. Why is it a mismatch?

Match compares text exactly. Turn on Show Diff Highlights to find the difference, such as a missing symbol, a different apostrophe, an extra character or a shortened title.

Why is the PXM column blank when my product has content in PXM?

This usually means the attribute isn't mapped on your channel template, or the attribute is empty in PXM. Check your template mapping (see Channel & Marketplace Templates in PXM).

Why is Match showing the wrong brand or other unexpected values?

Check your channel template. A Brand or Manufacturer field mapped to more than one PXM attribute can pull the wrong value. If the mapping looks right, contact your Pattern CSM.

Does Item Highlight count toward my score?

On Amazon US, yes. On other marketplaces, Item Highlight can appear in the comparison but doesn't change the score.

Why don't I see a marketplace in the dropdown?

Each marketplace is turned on for your account separately. Check with your Pattern CSM about the marketplaces available to you.

Why is a product missing from Match?

Its listing may not be linked to the product yet (check Unassociated Listings), or the listing may not be scored, for example if it has no ASIN. If you've checked both and it's still missing, contact your Pattern CSM with the ASINs.

Why are the Marketplace Backend values blank for my Walmart products?

On Walmart, backend data is currently available for Marketplace (3P) listings only, so blank backend values are expected for 1P listings. Even for Marketplace (3P) listings, Walmart may not return every field. Match shows a notice when backend fields are limited.

Can I leave some products out of Match?

Match scores your active listings that are linked to PXM products. To focus on certain products, use the Folders or Lightbox filter, or save a filter with CREATE FILTER.

Can Match fix variation problems, such as a child ASIN that has split from its parent?

Not today. Match compares content for each listing but doesn't detect broken variations.

Troubleshooting

  • Match isn't in the left navigation: Match needs the Admin role and must be turned on for your account. Ask your PXM admin to check your role, or check with your Pattern CSM.

  • Match opens to a lock screen: the lock screen lists what's still needed, such as a marketplace connection, an active channel template or linked listings. If the navigation bar disappears on this screen, use your browser's back button.

  • Match is empty: check that your marketplace account is connected, that you have an active channel template for that marketplace, and that your listings are linked to products. Then wait for the next daily check.

  • A product shows an error collecting live data: Match couldn't read the live product page. This often happens when a listing is out of stock or inactive.

  • You can't sync or open a case from Match: these actions need write access to Match, which depends on your role. Ask your PXM admin to check your role, or contact your Pattern CSM.

  • A search or export returns fewer products than you expected: note the marketplace, the date and the ASINs you searched for, and contact your Pattern CSM.
