Nordstrom Marketplace, Nordstrom's third-party (3P) marketplace, runs on Mirakl. Pattern PXM publishes your approved catalog content to it through a direct API connection: you provide your Nordstrom API key, map a template for each Nordstrom category you sell in, and publish whenever your content changes.
Nordstrom uses the same PXM steps as other Mirakl marketplaces. This guide covers what's specific to Nordstrom: its categories, field names, value lists and image fields.
Before you start
A Nordstrom Marketplace seller account: you'll need a seller portal user who can see or generate the API key. On Mirakl portals this is usually a Master Account user.
Marketplace (3P) only: this connection is for Nordstrom Marketplace sellers. Wholesale or vendor (1P) content doesn't go through it.
Availability: Nordstrom Marketplace is available when it's included in your Pattern PXM agreement. Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) if you'd like to add it.
Your role: setting up channels and templates and publishing need the Admin or Super Admin role. What other roles can do depends on how your account's permissions are set up. See User Roles and Permissions in Pattern PXM.
Only approved values are sent. Draft values don't publish until they're approved, and approving a value doesn't publish it. Someone still has to publish it to the channel.
Only mapped, selected fields are sent. A field reaches the channel only when it's mapped on the channel's template and selected in the job.
What PXM sends and what stays with you
Product (catalog) data, sent from PXM: title, brand, description, features, category attributes, images, identifiers and variants.
Price and inventory: PXM sends catalog content only. Price and inventory are managed outside PXM.
Managed in the Nordstrom seller portal: product videos, reviews and ratings, rich content beyond standard copy and images, promotions and other portal-only settings, orders and returns.
The category is the template. Nordstrom's product taxonomy (NPT) decides which attributes apply to a product and which are required. Put each product in the right Nordstrom category and map that category's template.
Step 1: Get your API key
Sign in to the Nordstrom Marketplace seller portal.
Open your account menu and go to the API key section. The exact label can vary.
Copy the existing key, or generate one if there isn't one yet.
Keep the existing key if it's in use. Regenerating a key cancels the old one and stops any live connection that uses it.
Keep your API key private. Treat it like a password. Share it only through the secure method your Pattern CSM provides, and never paste it into email, chat, support tickets, documents, product fields or templates.
Step 2: Add the connection in Pattern Connect
Work with your Pattern CSM on this step. If you don't have Pattern Connect access, Pattern adds the connection for you.
Go to connect.pattern.com, sign in with your Pattern PXM login, click Add new connection, choose Nordstrom and click Next.
Enter a clear connection name, for example "Brand — Nordstrom US".
Leave the Support ID as Pattern Connect fills it in (destination, org code and environment, joined by dashes). It must be lowercase, unique and under 40 characters, and it can't be changed after the connection is created.
Enter your API Key. The Customer Support API Key is optional.
For Marketplace Environment, choose Production for your live Nordstrom store. Pre-Production is for testing.
Enter your Shop ID, the numeric shop ID shown in the Nordstrom seller portal.
Click Connect. Pattern Connect checks the key with Nordstrom.
Confirm the connection shows as active.
Step 3: Create the Nordstrom channel
In Pattern PXM, open Settings in the left navigation, then go to MARKETPLACES > CHANNELS.
Click CREATE CHANNEL (bottom right).
Under API Channels, choose your Nordstrom connection.
Choose a Default Media Stack, then create the channel. A default media stack is required. If you don't have one yet, create it under Settings > Assets > Media Stack Group.
A new channel stays inactive until at least one of its templates is active, and an inactive channel can't be picked when you publish. For more on channels, see Creating a Channel in PXM.
Step 4: Map a template for each Nordstrom category
Go to Syndicate > TEMPLATES > API TEMPLATES and filter Channel to your Nordstrom channel. If the list is empty, click IMPORT FROM LISTINGS, or click ADD API TEMPLATES and choose the channel. Templates are named for Nordstrom's categories. If a category template is missing, contact your Pattern CSM.
Click EDIT on a template. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory, and some fields carry a RECOMMENDED tag.
Click MAP and choose a PXM attribute, a default value or a media stack position for each field.
Map the image fields to media stack positions. Position 1 is the main image.
Click SAVE TO THIS TEMPLATE, or APPLY TO ALL CHANNEL TEMPLATES to copy the mapping pattern to the channel's other templates.
A template stays inactive until every starred (*) field is mapped. For a full walkthrough of the template editor, see Channel & Marketplace Templates in PXM.
Fields most Nordstrom products need
Nordstrom templates use Nordstrom's own field names. Names can vary by category and template version, so check your template for the exact fields.
Category (
npt): the Nordstrom product taxonomy category, which is also the template.Shop SKU (
shop-sku): your unique, permanent identifier for the listing. Usually mapped to your PXM SKU.Title and brand (
product-title,product-label-name).Description and features (
copy-description,copy-features). Separate features with a pipe, for example Soft|Machine washable.UPC (
upc): check it before your first publish.Main image (
product-image-1-url).Color (
color-family,color-description,nrf-color-code).Age and gender (
age,gender).Country of manufacture (
country-of-manufacture-primary).Variant group code (
variant-group-code): for products that come in variants.
Some categories add their own fields, such as material for apparel and accessories, size fields (size-primary-general, size-primary-clothing, size-standard, size-type) or application area for beauty. A field can be required for one category and not another.
Field rules on Nordstrom
Exact list values: fields such as color family, age, gender and country of manufacture accept only Nordstrom's exact values. Age, for example, takes Adult, Youth, Infant or Toddler, and gender takes Male, Female, Unisex or Non-Gender. A near-match, such as Gray where the list says Grey, is rejected. Use Pick List attributes that hold Nordstrom's values.
Value and unit go together: a weight needs its unit of measure (Gram, Kilogram, Pound or Ounce). Map both and send both every time. Length, width and depth are optional.
Plain text only: send plain text in the description and features (
copy-description,copy-features). HTML is flagged in the P47 report.Multiple values: separate them with a pipe, not commas.
Categories are fixed: map each product to the closest existing Nordstrom category.
Images
The main image is required, and you can add up to 9 more, plus an optional size chart image.
Use high-resolution, square JPG or PNG images on a white or neutral background.
Nordstrom downloads each image from its URL, so every image URL must open in a signed-out browser.
Check Nordstrom's seller portal for its current pixel and file-size limits.
Add the images in order to your Nordstrom media stack. Position 1 is the main image.
Variants
Give every variant in a group the same variant group code, so Nordstrom shows one listing with options.
Give each variant its own shop SKU, for example a style-color-size SKU.
Variants are told apart by size and color family, so map both on each variant.
Step 5: Test, then roll out
Publish one product first, and treat it as live.
Confirm the job reaches HISTORY, then check the product in the Nordstrom seller portal, including its P44 and P47 reports.
Roll out category by category once the test lands.
Publish to Nordstrom
In Products, select the products you want to send, then click PUBLISH TO CHANNEL (bottom right).
In Channel*, choose your Nordstrom channel.
Complete the publish options: the publish type, the template and the media stack.
Select only the fields you're changing, review the content and fix any errors inline.
Submit the job, then follow it under Syndicate > JOBS. Copy the Job ID if you need to contact Pattern.
Choose the right publish type
Create: for new products. Include every required field for the category.
Full update: for rewriting a product's full content. Include every required field for the category.
Partial update: for routine changes such as images, title and description, or measurements. Always include the shop SKU and the Nordstrom category exactly as they are on the live listing, plus the fields you're changing.
Keep matching keys stable. Don't change the category, UPC or variant group code on a routine update. Changing them redefines the product and sends it back through Nordstrom's checks.
Every publish is manual. Changes reach Nordstrom when someone publishes them.
Track your jobs
Syndicate > JOBS has four tabs: DRAFT, ACTION REQUIRED, IN PROGRESS and HISTORY. Filter Channel to your Nordstrom channel.
A finished job means Nordstrom received the content. It isn't a live listing until Nordstrom accepts the product.
A job is a snapshot of your content and template when it was created. If either changes afterwards, start a new job.
If a job stays IN PROGRESS for more than about 2 hours, contact your Pattern CSM.
Read the Nordstrom error reports
PXM shows the job's status, and the Nordstrom seller portal holds the reason a product was rejected.
In the seller portal, open the P44 report (non-integrated products). It lists rejected products and the reason for each.
Open the P47 report (transformation errors). It shows field-level problems.
Fix the content or mapping in PXM, then publish again.
Common errors and fixes
The connection shows an error in Pattern Connect: the API key is wrong or was regenerated. Copy the current key from the seller portal and update the connection with your Pattern CSM.
The channel shows INACTIVE, or can't be picked when you publish: map every starred field on at least one template and save it.
Required fields look wrong for a product: the product is in the wrong Nordstrom category. The category decides the template.
A field is required on some products but not others: it's a category-specific field, such as size type on apparel or application area on beauty.
A weight is rejected: its unit of measure is missing. Map and send the value and unit together.
A list field is rejected: the value isn't exactly Nordstrom's value. Use the exact value, ideally through a Pick List attribute.
A partial update is rejected: include the shop SKU and category exactly as they are on the live listing.
Images never appear, with no error: the image URL isn't publicly reachable. Confirm each URL opens in a signed-out browser, then publish again.
A job failed with no clear reason: check the P44 and P47 reports in the Nordstrom seller portal.
A later edit didn't reach Nordstrom: approve the value, then start a new job with the field selected.
Still stuck? Contact your Pattern CSM, email pxmsupport@pattern.com or use the in-app chat, with the Job ID, the Nordstrom channel, an example shop SKU or UPC, the P44 or P47 error and when it happened.
FAQ
Which fields are required?
It depends on the category. Each category's template shows its starred (*) fields.
Does PXM send price and inventory?
PXM sends catalog content only. Price and inventory are managed outside PXM.
Can I add a video or rich content?
No. Product videos, reviews and rich content are managed in the Nordstrom seller portal.
Can I add a new category?
No. Map each product to the closest existing Nordstrom category.
Can I change a product's UPC or category?
Not on a routine update. Changing the UPC, category or variant group code redefines the product, so check them before your first publish and talk to your Pattern CSM before changing them.
