Understanding Categories, Collection Folders, and Files

In this support article, we'll explore the differences between categories, collection folders, and files within Amplifi, providing users with a comprehensive understanding of these organizational elements and how they function within the platform.

Categories:

Categories serve as hierarchical folders or organizational structures within Amplifi, facilitating the management of data and assets. Within categories, users can create a structure by nesting category folders within one another, allowing for efficient data organization.

  • Primarily used for navigational purposes

  • Can have only one parent Category Folder (due to inheritance abilities).

  • Can contain multiple Categories or Collection Folders as direct children.

  • Can force child Collection Folders to inherit: content, permissions, custom tabs, fields and data.

  • Can have its own 'Category' level content.

Collection Folders:

Collection folders, distinguished by their icon resembling a box, serve as specific products, marketing campaigns, or other projects. Collection folders may include images, videos, documents, PDFs, and other relevant assets. The collection folder also houses all of that product’s information, or PIM data.

  • Usually represents a product

  • Can live in multiple parent Category Folders.

  • Cannot have child folders.

  • May be forced to inherit: permissions, custom tabs, fields and data from a parent category.

  • Can have its own content and/or inherit content from a parent Category.

  • Collection folders are the leaf node of storage and are usually used to represent products within Amplifi.

  • Media within a collection is automatically assigned to tabs according to media type.

Files:

Files in Amplifi refer to individual assets such as images, videos, documents, and miscellaneous files. These files are typically housed within collection folders and are associated with one or more collection folders. Users can upload and organize files within collection folders to ensure easy access and retrieval.
