Running a protocol

Learn how to use protocols, get help and execute your protocol simulation

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

This document outlines the steps to run a protocol, including how to select a protocol, simulate, and execute the protocol.

Selecting a Protocol

Navigate to the Protocols List page and search for the desired protocol. You can filter protocols by tags or view those authored by you. Click on the protocol card to view a detailed description, including a simulation preview of the workflow. This preview provides an interactive example of what to expect when running the protocol.

Using the Protocol

If the selected protocol is appropriate, click the Use Protocol button. This action creates a Protocol Run, marking your commitment to run this protocol and generate instructions.

Once you have launched the protocol run, you can begin filling out the parameters for your experiment. Follow the on-screen instructions and parameter descriptions for guidance.

Simulating the Protocol

Once all parameters are set and validated, click the Simulate button. If the simulation is successful, you will be redirected to the Simulation Details page, where you can review the workflow and high-level instructions.

If you encounter issues with simulating the protocol, simply share the error with the Synthace team for assistance. Learn how to share a simulation with us here.

If you need to make further edits once you have simulated, you can navigate back to the protocol run page to rectify the issue. The new simulation will override the previous one, ensuring you always view the most recent version.

Executing the Protocol

Click the Start Execution button to begin running the protocol in the lab. This commits you to the chosen parameters, providing a fixed snapshot of what you will run in the lab.

Once an execution is created, the protocol will enter Read-Only Mode. If you need to change parameters, navigate back to the protocol using the breadcrumbs and duplicate the protocol from the read-only version to make edits.
