Use SynthaceHub to run an execution on most devices. However, some devices require additional or alternative steps.

This section helps you to understand the terms that SynthaceHub uses.

An execution is a simulation that you or a colleague have sent to your lab. In SynthaceHub, the Executions page displays the executions that SynthaceHub has received. Each execution comprises one or more tasks.

A task is a series of steps that one device completes before another device continues the execution.

Example: In the following image, the Liquid Handling task is the series of steps that the liquid handler completes before the plate reader continues the execution.

The Executions page displays a header row for each execution, below which is a row for each task that the execution comprises. A task might include some internal tasks.

An internal task is a functional step that a device must complete before it can continue an execution.

Example: In the preceding image, the Run integrated Plate Reader task includes a step to open the loading tray. The plate reader must open the loading tray before it can read a plate.

The Executions page does not display rows for internal tasks.

Before you run an execution, you should preview the execution to check that the devices in your lab will do what you expect. You probably did this before you sent the simulation to SynthaceHub, but now you have another opportunity to do so whilst you are in the lab.

2. Locate the execution, then click the Show preview icon.

3. View a preview of your execution, before you execute it, to ensure the protocol will run as intended - and ensure your labware is loaded in the correct locations.

When you are ready to run an execution on the devices in your lab, run the tasks that the execution comprises.

After the first task has run on the first device, the second task will automatically run on the next device, and so on until the execution is complete.

After you run the task manually, the execution will pause. If you want to run another task manually, repeat these steps for the next task that you want to run.

Tip: If you want to run one or more of the remaining tasks manually, you do not need to run them in the order that SynthaceHub presents them.

If a task does not run successfully, the Executions page displays a message in the status bar that explains why.

Fix the problem, then click RETRY to run the task again.

If you cannot fix the problem, but you can complete the task manually, skip the task.

Warning: Do not click CONTINUE if the success of the next task is dependent upon the completion of the previous task, and you cannot complete the previous task manually. For example, if you skip a task that opens the door of a plate reader, and you cannot open the door manually, but you continue the execution from a task that transfers a plate into the plate reader, the robot arm will try to move the plate through the closed door.

You cannot use SynthaceHub to cancel a task after it starts to run. To cancel a task after it starts to run, use the device plug-in window or, if that doesn't work, the device software.

When you run an execution, the Executions page displays a status bar beneath the header row for the execution. The status bar displays the status of the most recent task that has run. It also displays the status of the internal tasks that the task includes.

The Executions page displays the status of each task on the row for the task.

If you no longer want to run an execution on the devices in your lab, clear the execution.

Warning: After you clear an execution, you can no longer run the execution on the devices in your lab.

Tip: If you change your mind later, and decide that you want to run the execution on the devices, you must send the simulation from Synthace to SynthaceHub again.
