How do I remove supervisor status in the ANVL Admin Portal?

Learn how to remove Supervisor status from a user in the Admin Portal so bulk updates, group changes, or inactivation can proceed.

Answer

A user is classified as a Supervisor in ANVL when both of these are true:

  • the user has a phone number

  • the user has ANVL Insights (ADMIN) access

Supervisor status is a system classification, not a job title. It affects supervisor selection lists, reporting filters, and oversight workflows.

If you receive the error one_or_more_users_are_supervisors during a bulk update, Group change, or inactivation, you must remove Supervisor status before that action can proceed.

To remove Supervisor status, remove either:

  • the user’s phone number, or

  • the user’s ANVL Insights (ADMIN) access

Once one of those conditions is removed, the user is no longer classified as a Supervisor.

Steps

  1. Open ANVL Insights.

  2. Select Welcome, [Your Name].

  3. Select Admin Portal.

  4. In the Admin Portal, open User Management.

  5. Search for the user you need to update.

  6. Open the user record.

  7. Remove either:

    • the phone number, or

    • ANVL Insights (ADMIN) access

  8. Save the change.

  9. Wait for the update to process.

  10. Review the results to confirm the change succeeded.

  11. Refresh the page.

  12. Confirm the user is no longer classified as a Supervisor.

  13. Re-run the bulk update, Group change, or inactivation.

Bulk inactivation results showing one_or_more_users_are_supervisors in the errorType column.

If you are fixing a single user and it is easier to do outside the Admin Portal:

  1. Open ANVL Insights.

  2. Go to Users.

  3. Search for the user.

  4. Open the user profile.

  5. Remove either the phone number or ANVL Insights access.

  6. Save the change.

  7. Confirm the update succeeded.

Where Supervisor status matters

Users classified as Supervisors may appear:

  • as selectable Supervisors for other users

  • in supervisor selection lists

  • in supervisor-related Power BI filters

  • in oversight, alerting, and reporting workflows

What changes after Supervisor status is removed

After Supervisor status is removed:

  • the user can no longer be assigned as another user’s Supervisor

  • the user no longer appears in Supervisor selection lists

  • the user no longer appears in supervisor-related reporting filters

Important notes

  • The error one_or_more_users_are_supervisors means Supervisor status must be removed before the requested action can continue.

  • For bulk work, the Admin Portal is usually the better place to make this change.

  • For one-off fixes, the Users tab in ANVL Insights may be faster.
