Primary Role: Workflow Manager
Learning Focus: Learn
Where: Workflow Editor, ANVL Mobile App, Completed Workflow View
🎯 Why This Matters
Workflow section categories don’t affect where workflows appear or how they’re published. They exist to make workflows easier to complete, review, and print.
Good sectioning improves usability for users and clarity for reviewers.
📝 What These Categories Are (and Are Not)
Workflow section categories:
Split a workflow into logical sections
Group related questions together
Organize how completed workflows are displayed
They are not:
Group / publishing categories
Reporting or analytics controls
Site or workflow discovery settings
Think of them as section headers inside a workflow, not folders.
📱Where Users See Workflow Sections
Users see these categories:
As breadcrumbs at the bottom of the screen while completing a workflow
As section headers when viewing a completed workflow
In the print view, where they organize responses into readable sections
This makes them especially important for review and audits.
🧭 How to Use Workflow Sections Well
Use categories to reflect the natural flow of the task, such as:
Preparation
Task Details
Hazard Identification
Controls
Final Review
Well-designed sections help users understand where they are and what comes next.
🛠️ Where to Edit Workflow Sections (Categories)
Workflow section categories are set at the question level.
To edit them:
Open a Draft or Published workflow in the Editor
In the Workflow tab, select the question you want to update
In the question settings, locate the Category dropdown
Select the appropriate category (section) for that question
Repeat for other questions as needed
Each question is assigned to one category, and the workflow sections are built from those assignments.
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
Using vague or technical labels that don’t help users
Creating too many sections for short workflows
Inconsistent section names across similar workflows
How Sections Fit with Other Workflow Design Choices
Questions define what information is collected
Routes define when questions appear
Sections (categories) define how questions are grouped and reviewed
They shape the experience, not the logic.
🔑 Key Takeaways
Workflow section categories organize questions inside a workflow
They appear during completion, review, and printing
They improve usability and review clarity
