Configuring and managing multi-tier discounts for subscriptions

Oftentimes, you - the merchant, may want to offer a special discount for your first-time subscribers as an encouragement for them to sign up for repeat purchases, or as a 'Thank you' to them and hold the discount for a few order cycles. You may then either wish to automatically increase or decrease the discount rate, based on your store and sales strategy.

Appstle's advanced discounts, otherwise known as 'multi-tier' discounts enable you to automatically change the discount rate after a few cycles.

Feature description
Appstle recently released a new feature 'advanced discounts', which facilitates our merchants to configure and manage multi-tier discounting.

Below is a breakdown of the feature with an example.

You - the merchant, can setup multi tier discounting while creating a subscription plan, or later while updating/editing it. The multi-tier discount feature is broken down as:

  1. Discount for subscribing - refers to the discount offered to customers for subscribing to a product or service.

  2. Follow up discounts - refers to the changes you want to make to the discount (increase, decrease, or remove discount) after a few cycles

1. Discount for subscribing

Please note: This discount rate will be applicable for the first order as well as all recurring orders if the 'Change discount after' box is left undefined.

To set discounts, please follow the below steps:

  • Step 1: Login to your merchant portal for Appstle Subscriptions

  • Step 2: Click on Subscription Plans on the left side of the navigation panel

  • Step 3: Click on Create Subscription Plan

  • Step 4: Please scroll down. Click on the toggle 'Offer a discount for subscription', as shown in screenshot

  • Step 5: Input a discount (either as a % of order value, or as a specific amount)

    If you entered the Subscription Discount Offer to be 10 Percent, [as shown in the below image], your customers will receive an order discount of 10% for all orders (first and recurring) within the subscription plan. ​

2. Follow-up discounts for subscribing

To change the discount rate to 0 after a few cycles, or to automatically increase or decrease it, you will need to make use of our Loyalty feature. Please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Navigate back to Subscription Plans and click on Loyalty for a specific plan.

Step 2: For each frequency plan you have created, click the Add button in the upper right to reveal 3 additional fields underneath the initial discount offer: After Billing Cycle(s), Offer, and Discount Percentage/Amount/Shipping Price/Variant ID, depending on your selection within Offer.

Step 3: Set the billing cycle you wish for your initial discount to update, select the discount type in Offer (for percent off, amount off, shipping price, or free product), then fill out the right-most field. This field can also be left as '0' if you wish to end the discount after a set number of cycles.

Note: If you select any of Percent off, amount off, or shipping price, the right-most part will be a field where you can type in a number. If you select Free Product, it will be a field where you can either type in a product ID or activate a pop-up menu where you can select the product instead.

Step 4: Click Save in the upper right-hand corner of this page.
