Product Features & Specifications
Can the Hydropixel connect to an external storage tank?
No. The Hydropixel is designed as a plug-and-play indoor unit with >10 gallons of internal water storage. It cannot connect to an external tank, and modifying it to do so will void the warranty.
Can I retrofit the Hydropixel to store additional water externally?
No. Any modification to add external storage would void the warranty and may affect system performance.
Why doesn’t the Hydropack X have a larger internal tank than the Hydropack?
All Hydropack models are designed to work with external storage tanks. The internal tank is used as an intermediary water storage prior to the water being stored in a dedicated external water tank.
Are Aquaria machines portable?
Hydropixel: Yes — it has wheels and can be moved indoors as needed.
Hydropack series: No — they are heavy outdoor units meant to sit on a concrete pad and function as a permanent installation.
Where are Aquaria units manufactured?
Aquaria units are currently manufactured in Shenzhen, China, with active plans underway to expand production to Texas in the future.
Do the machines come with filters included?
Yes. Each unit comes with all required filters installed. Replacement timing varies by model and environment:
Hydropixel: Every 6 months
Hydropack series: Every 6–9 months
Homes with dust, sand, smoke, or construction nearby may require more frequent air filter changes.
Does the compressor consume the same amount of energy regardless of humidity levels?
No. The compressor adjusts its power draw based on the energy needed to condense water at the current temperature and humidity. Aquaria’s hardware and software systems work together to optimize efficiency across a wide range of environmental conditions.
Can the unit turn on and off automatically or remotely?
All units stop water production automatically when their internal tank is full. Remote monitoring and control features are currently in development for the Hydropack series.
The Hydropixel does not support remote control.
Do Aquaria products have a strong starting inrush current?
Each machine has a brief inrush current at startup, lasting less than 5 seconds. This happens any time the main power breaker is switched from OFF to ON. For best performance, keep the breaker on at all times and avoid unnecessary power cycling. For model-specific inrush currents, please refer to the model-specific spec sheets.
How much water does the Hydropixel produce?
At standard indoor temperature and humidity conditions, you can expect the Aquaria Hydropixel to produce between 8-12 gallons of water per day.
How much water can each Hydropack model produce?
Production varies depending on temperature and humidity. Aquaria’s products are rated for the following water production at 86ºF / 80% humidity:
Hydropack S: ~66 gallons/day
Hydropack: ~132 gallons/day
Hydropack X: ~264 gallons/day
To choose the right model, most homeowners compare daily water usage. The average U.S. household uses 75 gallons per person per day. For personalized recommendations, Aquaria’s team can review your water bill or create a water production profile for your location.
What do the temperature and humidity sensors measure?
The temperature and humidity sensors are positioned near the air intake to measure the exact air entering the system:
Hydropack (outdoor): Readings reflect real outdoor conditions within a ~10 ft radius.
Hydropixel (indoor): Readings may vary because indoor airflow is limited.
To improve accuracy indoors:
Keep at least 3 feet (1 meter) of clearance around the vents.
Avoid placing the unit against walls or inside tight corners.
Installation & Integration
What is the recommended Wi-Fi range for the Hydropack?
For Hydropack models that support Wi-Fi, the range depends on the strength of your home router. If the unit is installed far from the house or in an area with a weaker signal, using a Wi-Fi extender can help maintain a stable connection. Using a 2.4Gz network is required.
Does the Hydropack store data locally if it goes offline?
Yes! However, at this time, customers do not have access to operational analytics. Aquaria is actively developing features that will allow data to sync and be viewed once Wi-Fi connectivity is restored.
Should the Hydropack be connected to an external storage tank?
Yes, we strongly recommend pairing the Hydropack series with an external water storage tank. This ensures you have enough water for daily household use and allows the unit to run efficiently.
How easy is it to use a Hydropack as a backup water source?
Very easy! Most homeowners simply add:
An external storage tank, and
A small amount of plumbing to connect the unit into the home’s water system.
Your local plumber can typically handle this in a single visit.
How simple is it to connect the unit to an existing solar energy system?
If your home uses a grid-tied solar system, you can plug the machine into your home’s electrical circuit as usual — it will run off the solar energy that powers the house. If your solar system is off-grid, we recommend scheduling a discovery call so our team can help evaluate your specific setup.
Can Hydropack units run on DC power?
Aquaria Hydropack units require 200–240V single-phase AC power.
However, if your solar setup includes an inverter that outputs AC (common in many homes), the unit can run using your solar power.
How are minerals added back into the water?
Hydropixel: Water passes through a built-in mineral cartridge right before dispensing.
Hydropack: The Hydropack does not include an internal mineralization stage, since it is designed to connect to an external tank. You may add a mineralization cartridge at a faucet or point of use if preferred.
Do you have recommended contractors for solar or plumbing work?
Yes. Aquaria partners with experienced installers who can support plumbing and solar-related needs. For work beyond the standard installation scope, you can coordinate directly with their general contractor.
How complex is it to integrate a Hydropack with existing home water lines?
It’s straightforward! The Hydropack produces water into an external storage tank, which then connects to the home through a valve or pump line — similar to adding a well or rainwater tank. A licensed plumber can complete this integration quickly.
What happens to water in the tank during freezing temperatures or long periods without use?
If water is exposed to freezing temperatures, it will expand as it turns to ice.
To protect your system:
Drain your external tank to no more than 75% full before a freeze.
Make sure the Hydropack itself is fully drained during winterization.
This prevents damage to pumps, tanks, and connecting lines.
How much clearance does the unit need from walls or other objects?
We recommend at least 10 feet (3 meters) of open space around the unit so the intake and exhaust vents have proper airflow. Good airflow helps maximize water production and prevents warm exhaust air from recirculating back into the intake.
When does the internal pump activate?
The internal pump turns on automatically when the water level of the internal tank reaches the high-level mark (and pump mode is enabled).
How do I know when the unit is ready to use again after being drained or winterized?
Follow the winterization restart guide:
Turn the unit back on
Let it run for 24 hours
Drain any initial water
Confirm clean filters are installed
After this, the unit is ready for normal use.
Should the drip-tray outlet be connected to the main external tank?
No. This outlet is meant to empty the internal tank during maintenance or winterization. It should not be routed back into your potable water storage.
Is winterization required for just the outlet, or the entire system?
Winterize all external piping, including hoses, pumps, and outlets, to prevent freezing damage.
Should the external pump run during freezing conditions?
No. In freezing temperatures, water should already be drained from external lines, so the pump should not run.
How can I protect the unit during hurricanes or severe storms?
Secure or shelter the Hydropack if severe weather is expected. Here’s our recommended precautions:
Brace the unit to its concrete pad
Cover with a weather-rated tarp secured to the ground
Disconnect the power and bring the plug indoors
These steps protect the unit from debris, wind, and floodwater.
How do maintenance and repairs work for customers outside major cities?
Our team provides remote support for all customers. We are also building expanded digital resources to assist with installation and troubleshooting from any location.
Water Quality & Filtration
What materials are used in Aquaria water filters?
We use a multi-stage filtration system designed for ultra-clean water. Depending on the model, the filters may include:
Fiber or ceramic elements
Activated carbon
Ultra-fine and microfiltration layers
Mineralization (Hydropixel only)
These work together to remove impurities and improve water clarity and taste.
What contaminants do Aquaria filters remove?
Aquaria systems use Class I, ultra-fine filtration that blocks particles larger than 0.1 microns. This includes many forms of dust, sediment, microorganisms, and microplastics. Combined with built-in UV sterilization and continuous recirculation, the water stays clean and fresh.
Why can’t the filters be cleaned and reused?
The filter media contain microscopic pores designed to trap contaminants. Cleaning them fully isn’t possible without damaging the filter or reducing performance. Using worn or cleaned filters can also allow particles to circulate into your plumbing or the machine.
For consistent water quality, filters must be replaced on a regular schedule.
Can the machine run without filters?
No. The filters are essential to protect both the water quality and the internal components of the machine. Running the machine without the correct filters will reduce water safety and can lead to machine damage.
Does Aquaria remove microplastics from the water produced?
Yes. Because Aquaria’s machine generates water from air, it avoids contaminants found in many water supplies — including PFAS, microplastics, and dissolved solids. The filtration system then removes any particles that may enter during the process, including microplastics larger than 0.1 microns.
How can I extend the life of my filters?
Air filters: Place the unit in a location with less dust, smoke, or heavy particulate air.
Water filters: Replacement frequency depends on water production volume, but typical schedules are:
Hydropixel: Every 6 months
Hydropack series: Every 6–9 months
Keeping the area around the intake clean helps both air and water filters last longer.
What comes in a Hydropixel filter set?
A Hydropixel filter set includes:
4 water filtration cartridges
1 water mineralization cartridge
1 air filter
Do unused filters expire?
Yes, but slowly. When stored unonpened, sealed in a cool, dry place, Aquaria filters can be kept for up to 3 years.
Do filters need to be replaced if the machine has been off for a long time?
If the unit has been powered off for two weeks or longer, we strongly recommend replacing the filters before resuming normal operation. This helps ensure water quality and prevents buildup in the filtration media.
How does filtration work when using an external water storage tank?
Inside the Hydropack, the water is filtered, circulated, and treated with UV light. After the water moves into an external tank, filtration needs depend on how you plan to use the water:
For general household use (laundry, showers, toilets): A basic tank circulation or filtration system helps keep the water fresh and prevents stagnation.
For drinking / cooking: An additional set of point-of-use filters and mineralization is recommended.
Our team can recommend simple setups based on your home.
What happens to water in the external tank during freezing conditions or if pumps are turned off for a long time?
Water expands as it freezes. To protect your system:
Keep the tank no more than 75% full in freezing conditions
Fully drain the Hydropack if winterizing
Drain external lines and pumps to prevent damage
Following winterization steps ensures the whole system stays safe in extreme cold.
What is the pH of the water produced?
All Aquaria units produce water with a pH of 6.5 to 8.5, depending on local air quality.
Are Hydropack filter-life indicators based on actual water usage or time?
The filter-life indicator for Hydropack models based on actual water production.
What types of filters are used in the Hydropixel?
The Hydropixel uses an advanced multi-stage system including:
Molecular cell filtration
Sintered activated carbon
Ultra-fine membranes
Microfiltration
Coconut-shell carbon mineralization
These layers clean, purify, and mineralize the water for a fresh, slightly alkaline taste.
Maintenance, Repairs & Winterization
How difficult is it to perform repairs on these units?
Basic tasks like replacing filters or cleaning air intakes are simple for homeowners.
For anything more complex, Aquaria’s support team will guide you through next steps, including warranty-covered service or technician assistance if needed.
What are the most common service issues?
The most frequent maintenance items include:
Replacing air and water filters
Ensuring proper airflow around the unit
Occasional pump or sensor servicing on Hydropack models
Most issues stem from dust buildup, filter timing, or restricted airflow rather than mechanical failure.
What happens if the machine is exposed to extended cold weather?
If temperatures drop below freezing for long periods, water inside the unit can freeze and expand. This may damage pumps, lines, or internal components. To prevent this, winterization is required anytime sustained freezing conditions are expected.
What ongoing maintenance is required over the product’s lifespan?
Typical tasks include:
Replacing filters on schedule
Keeping the air intake and condenser area clean
Cleaning the external water storage tank (if connected)
Periodic checks of pumps and fans
Following winterization steps in cold climates
These steps help maintain efficiency and protect your unit long-term.
At what temperature should the system be winterized?
Winterize the system when ambient temperatures are expected to fall below 32°F (0°C) for extended periods. Once temperatures consistently rise above freezing, you may safely restart the unit.
How simple is it to change the filters?
Hydropixel: Less than 2 minutes
Hydropack series: Around 10 minutes
All water cartridges twist on/off, and the air filter can be removed easily — comparable to refrigerator or home purifier maintenance.
Can the machine be damaged if it loses power during freezing weather? Who is responsible?
Yes. If the machine is not properly winterized and freezing temperatures occur, internal components can be damaged. Damage caused by failing to winterize is not covered under warranty.
Do Hydropacks and Hydropixel machines share the same error codes?
Some codes are shared across models, but others are model-specific. Refer to your model’s user manual for the correct code descriptions.
Can the machine remain off for long periods and resume normal operation?
If the machine has been off for one year or longer, follow this restart process:
Turn the unit on and allow it to run for 24 hours
Drain the internal tank
Clean the tank (if applicable)
Replace all filters
Resume normal operation
This ensures clean, fresh water after extended downtime.
