Water Quality & Filtration

Updated over a month ago

  1. What materials are the filters made of?

    1. Our multi-stage filtration systems use combinations of fiber and/or ceramic elements, activated carbon, and other media. Every Aquaria unit comes with an internal holding tank that purifies the water generated by cycling the water every 10 minutes and activating a UV sterilization every 8 hours.

  2. What contaminants do the filters remove?

    1. Aquaria unit is a Class I, patented ultra-fine filtration that blocks particles larger than 0.1 μm.

  3. Why can’t the filters be cleaned and reused?

    1. Most filter media are designed to trap contaminants in microscopic pores. Cleaning them thoroughly enough to restore full effectiveness is impractical and may compromise filtration quality. This will also cause damage to the pipes of the Aquaria unit and of the customers’ plumbing system. Changing filters guarantees a healthy system.

  4. Is it possible to operate the machine without filters?

    1. No. Running any Aquaria unit without the correct filters could result in the disruption of the water generation and compromise water quality. The filters are integral to ensure the internal machinery does not have particle buildup.

  5. Are there concerns about microplastics in the water produced?

    1. Aquaria’s filtration processes are designed to remove particulate matter, including potential microplastics. Proper use and timely replacement of filters ensure water purity. Additionally, by generating a completely new source of water, Aquaria eliminates the need for advanced filtration from external sources—such as municipal water—that are often contaminated by substances like PFAS.

    2. Please see the "Water Quality" section of our website to read the excellent results of our third-party water quality tests from SimpleLab.

  6. How can I extend the life of my filters?

    1. Placing an Aquaria product in a location with less dust and ambient pollution particles will help extend the life of the air filters. For water filters, this is dependent on the quantity of water produced, but it is recommended to replace a filter set every 4-6 months for the Hydropack series and the Hydropixel to guarantee high-quality water.

  7. When purchasing a “set” of Hydropixel filters, how many filters are included?

    1. A “set” is inclusive of 1 multi-stage filter pack designed for the Hydropixel which consists of 4 water filtration canisters, 1 mineralization canister, and 1 air filter.

  8. Do filters have a shelf life before use?

    1. Unused, sealed filters can generally be stored for 3 years in a cool, dry place.

  9. Do filters need to be changed if the machine has been turned off for an extended period?

    1. If the machine remains powered off for two weeks or more, you must replace all filters prior to resuming normal operation to ensure optimal water quality.

  10. How does filtration work with external water storage tanks?

    1. Aquaria’s units have a built-in filtration process within the system, with UV sterilization and water circulation. Once the water is stored in an external tank, however, an additional, downstream filtration and UV system should be used to ensure quality.

  11. During freezing temperatures or when the external pump is switched off for an extended period (such as during extended travel), what happens to the water in the tank?

    1. If the water in the tank is exposed to sub-freezing temperatures for an extended period of time, the water will turn from it’s liquid to solid state. To safeguard your tank, it is highly recommended to drain your tank to a maximum of 75% to account for the fact that water expands by 9% when changing from liquid water to ice. You must drain all liquid from the Hydropack to ensure no pumps are at risk of bursting.

  12. What is the pH level of the water produced?

    1. 6.5 - 8.5 for all units

    2. A calcite filter, common in home water filtration systems, will increase the pH of the water and ensure protection from acidic contamination.

  13. Are the Hydropack’s filter life display purely timer-based, and does it reset automatically upon filter replacement? 1. Yes, the filter life indicators are based on a timer rather than water production or flow. The timer resets automatically after each filter replacement. Refer to the Hydropack manual for more details.

  14. What are the different types of filters used in the Hydropixel, and how do they differ in function?

    1. Our advanced multi-stage filtration process—incorporating molecular cell, sintered activated carbon, ultra-fine, microfiltration, and coconut shell carbon mineralization—removes a broad range of contaminants, improves taste and odor, and enriches water with beneficial minerals for a cleaner, healthier, slightly alkaline beverage; please check the filter guide for additional details.
