Disinfection Protocol for Water Tanks

Updated this week

For best results, please follow these instructions immediately prior to changing filters

  1. Safety Precautions

    1. Ensure the work area is well-ventilated to avoid direct exposure to contaminants.

  2. Empty Water Contents

    1. Fully drain the water from both the upper and lower tanks to prevent contaminants from entering the pipes.

  3. Physical Cleaning

    1. Scrub the inner walls, corners, and pipe connections of the tank with hot water (≥60°C) and food-grade detergent to remove all organic residues.

    2. For stubborn stains, use baking soda or white vinegar for additional cleaning.

  4. Chemical Disinfection (Choose One)

  5. Recommended Disinfectants:

    1. Chlorine-based disinfectant (e.g., sodium hypochlorite):

      1. Concentration: 100-200 ppm (0.01%~0.02% available chlorine).

      2. Advantages: Broad-spectrum sterilization, effective against most pathogens (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli).

  6. Hydrogen peroxide (food-grade):

    1. Concentration: 3%~6%.

    2. Advantages: Breaks down into water and oxygen, leaving no toxic residue.

  7. Application Method:

    1. Dilute the disinfectant to the recommended concentration and fill both the upper and lower tanks above the high-water level.

    2. Soak for at least 30 minutes, then activate the system to flush out the disinfectant through the water outlet.

  8. Not Recommended:

    1. Alcohol(limited effectiveness, requires high concentration, and is flammable).

    2. High-concentration bleach powder(may corrode stainless steel and leave chlorine residue).

  9. Post-Disinfection Cleaning & Inspection

    1. Rinse the tank repeatedly with clean water to ensure no chemical residues remain.

    2. Replace All Filters

    3. After completing disinfection, replace the entire set of water filters to prevent potential recontamination.

  10. Water Quality Testing

    1. After disinfection, test the water quality (e.g., for E. coli and total bacterial count) using a home testing kit to ensure safety.

  11. Preventive Measures

    1. Regularly inspect the tank's surroundings.

    2. Perform routine disinfection every 3 months.

Important Notes:

Do not mix different chemicals (e.g., chlorine and acid, which can produce toxic gas).

If abnormal odors or water quality issues occur after disinfection, stop usage immediately and repeat the cleaning process.

By following these steps, pathogens can be effectively eliminated, and the safety of the water tank can be restored.
