Art Storefronts has partnered with Gooten to provide a wide selection of premium merchandise products for artists. Gooten is a global on-demand manufacturing and fulfillment provider that enables you to expand your product line without managing inventory or production logistics.

Through this partnership, you can offer merch products directly on your website, including:

  • Hoodies

  • T-shirts and tank tops

  • Phone cases

  • Tote bags

  • Pillows

  • Kiss-cut stickers

  • Mugs

  • Puzzles

  • Metal and porcelain ornaments

  • Metal prints and metal magnets

  • Wall calendars

  • Acrylic trays

  • Yoga mats

This guide covers how to configure and activate merch products on your site and add them to your storefront.

Recommended starting products
For your initial launch, we recommend enabling at least these three merch products first:

  • Tote bags

  • Phone cases

  • Mugs

These are consistently among the top-selling merch items across the platform and are a strong foundation for most stores.

If your artwork is available across multiple merch items, consider creating a dedicated Gift Shop gallery. This allows visitors to quickly find giftable products without needing to browse through multiple themed galleries.

From a setup standpoint, best practice is to configure each artwork as a single art print product in your backend and enable multiple mediums within that product (such as canvas, metal, and merch). This keeps your catalog organized and makes product management more efficient over time.

There are two main reasons for this:

  1. Easy to maintain

Uploading the same artwork as multiple separate products—each with only one medium enabled—is not recommended. This setup is often combined with creating multiple Art Print Stores in the Site Manager, which can make your website harder to configure, more confusing for visitors to navigate, and significantly more difficult to maintain.

A better approach is to create one art print product per artwork and enable all available mediums within that single product. This keeps your catalog organized and makes updates much easier over time.

For example, if you discover a typo in a product title, you would only need to correct it once. If the same artwork exists as multiple separate products, you would need to locate and update every duplicate entry. What should take only a few seconds can quickly turn into a long manual task. The same applies when adding product descriptions or other details—you would need to repeat the update across each duplicate product page.

Using a single product with multiple mediums enabled saves time, reduces errors, and keeps your store easier to manage.

  2. Offering a variety of choices to the buyer

When a potential buyer lands on a product page, your goal is to guide them straight to making a purchase—not to have them leave the page. If you only offer one medium for that product, you’re limiting their options and significantly reducing the likelihood of a sale.

Here’s why: if the buyer isn’t ready to purchase the specific medium available, they have no alternative but to leave the product page. Often, they won’t realize the same artwork is offered in other formats. At best, they might continue browsing your site in search of something else—but you’ve already lost the chance to convert that visitor into a buyer.

Now imagine the same visitor sees all available mediums for that artwork right on the same product page. If they’re not interested in a Hoodie, they might still want a Mug or Tote Bag. By showing multiple options in one place, you make it easy for them to add their preferred medium to the cart with a single click—no need to exit the page or hunt through other galleries. This keeps the buyer engaged and maximizes your chances of converting interest into a sale.

Setting up Gift Shop products

To set up the product in an optimal way, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Art Print Store

1.jpg

2. Go to the Media tab

2.jpg

3. Enable all the wall art mediums and merch products that you would like to offer in your gift shop. In this example, we will be creating a Gift Shop with T-Shirts, Tote Bags, Throw Pillows, Phone Cases, Mugs, Wall Calendars and Canvas.

There are several reasons why you may wish to manage which merchandise choices are available for each product. The primary rationale is that certain merchandise products may not be well-suited for every image aspect ratio. Fortunately, you can decide which merchandise options are appropriate for each product by enabling or disabling them on a product level and selecting the options that best fit the product's unique characteristics..

3.jpg

Within the same store, we also have enabled wall art prints for Lustre Paper, Watercolor Paper, Metal Print, Canvas Gallery Wraps and Acrylic, for additional variety:

4.jpg

4. Now let's upload an art piece. To do that, go to the Products tab, and Click + Add Products button.

5.jpg

In this example, we will be using a signed image of a Tit Bird to create the product:

tit bird larger.png

5. Now that the product is uploaded, let's click on Edit

6.jpg

6. Add the information about the product like Name, Short and Long Description,...

7.jpg

8. Now lets Click to Preview this product page

8.jpg

If we observe the image in different mediums, you will notice that the image is not ideally positioned in all mediums. For example, when viewed on Phone Cases, the head of the bird is cut off, while when previewed in Tote Bags, artist signature is cut off.

9.jpg

10.jpg

9. Lets go back to the product page on the back end to fix this.

First, while still one the product, go to the Available Media, then Merch. Find the Phone Cases, and next to it, click on the 'Lock Image Position'

11.jpg

Each Merch Product has an integrated image movement tool on the live website. This tool enables your customers to resize, rotate, and reposition the image in their preferred manner. However, you can specify the image's position, scale, and rotation angle in advance, and remove the customer or site visitor's ability to modify them. This ensures that the image will be printed as you intended.

You may use our Lock Image in a Position Tool to accomplish this, and it must be done on a per-product basis.

10. This will open up a new dashboard for you where you can now start manipulating image position on the Phone Case by simply hovering over the image and then dragging and dropping it into a more suitable position.

12.jpg

Note: As the artist and site owner, you will know the best positioning for your products if you are choosing to lock products in place. Art Storefronts does not currently support locking variants on the artist's behalf.

11. When you are happy with the position of the image, it's time to Lock the image. To do this, you have two options:

13.jpg

  • Lock Current Variant - This button will apply this new image position but only for the selected product variant, which is in this case iPhone 15 Pro, Premium Glassy Snap Case. This is a more granular approach, that will allow you control for each individual product variant, but it will also take more time to set up all variant.

  • Lock All Variants - This button will apply this new image position to all product variants (all phone models and case styles).

You can be as granular as you want with your approach, positioning the image for every product variant or for all variants in bulk.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will click on Lock All Variants.

12. When we are done editing, lets click Save at the bottom right corner, and then let's click on the product link at the top of the page, to go back to the product settings.

14.jpg

13. Let's now do the same for Tote Bags. Again, we will click on Lock Image Position next to Tote Bags.

15.jpg

14. Again, we will want to find the optimal position for the image on the Tote Bags.

16.jpg

Since for this image, the signature at the bottom right corner is cut off we are going to drag and drop the image to the right, so that the signature is outside of the print area, and then click Lock All Variants.

17.jpg

NOTE: if you prefer to not cut off the signature, and instead you want to display it, then you can also use the Image Size slider to zoom out the image before you Lock it:

18.jpg

For the purpose of this tutorial, we will not be zooming out the image, and instead we will use the above approach of simply moving the image to the right to remove the signature from the print area.

16. Now lets go back to the product page and Preview it on the live site to see how our products look.

19.jpg

You will notice that when we select Phone Case and Tote Bag medium, the product looks much better - the head of the bird and the signature are no longer cut off.

20.jpg

21.jpg

17. Repeat this process for all the products that you will offer in your Gift Shop.

Troubleshooting

  1. I don’t see sliders for merch product types on my site.

    1. If you aren’t seeing these sliders, you may be on the wrong tab or you may not be connected to a fulfillment vendor. First, try making sure you’re on the tab labeled Merch.

    2. If you are on the Merch tab, scroll down and see if you have the sliders. If you don’t, you aren’t connected to a vendor. Email cs@artstorefronts.com and they’ll be able to resolve this for you.

  2. My changes to the sliders won’t save.

    1. You likely need to use an approved browser. If you’re using anything other than Firefox or Chrome, you should stop and use either Chrome or Firefox.

    2. If you’re using an approved browser, you may need to clear your cache. Check out how to clear the cache by using the article on How To: Clear your Cache.

How To Enable/Disable Merchandise Products In Bulk

  1. If you'd like to enable/disable Merchandise products in a bulk, you can do that in a folder in your Art Print Store.

On the Art Print Store's PRODUCTS tab, you can select multiple images in a folder you'd like to enable/disable Merchandise options for.

    mceclip4.png

  2. Once the products have been selected, we can click on the Bulk Edit option.

    mceclip5.png

  3. This will pull up Bulk Edit Form, where you will have several options to select. We are looking for the last one, Edit Medium Availability. Selecting that option will open up two tabs. Art Prints, and Merch. We are looking for the Merch Tab

    mceclip6.png

  4. Here, you can select which Merch Products you'd like to display for the products you have selected. Once the selection is over, please select BULK UPDATE option to apply the changes.

How to change your Merchandise Product Variants

Merchandise products are available in a variety of options, including various brands, sizes, colors, models, and so on. If you want to offer only a specific set of variants, such as just one brand of T-Shirts or a single size of Pillow Cases, please follow the instructions below.

  1. While you are in your Art Print Store, click on the Media tab > Merch tab, and then click the blue Edit link next to the Product for which you want to review variants. In this example, we will review different T-Shirt variants.

    mceclip5.png

This will take you to a new section, where you can start looking through all the variants of T-Shirts, by filtering the different Brands, Print Placements, Sizes and Colors.

mceclip6.png

Note: Different products have different filters. For example, on T-Shirts you can filter through different Brands, while on Tote Bags you can filter just through different Sizes.

2. Let's say we want to disable all Black variants of the Bella + Canvas brand. Under Filter By Brand, we'll select Bella + Canvas, and under Filter by Color we'll select Black. Then click on Search.

mceclip7.png

3. This will list out all the variants of Bella + Canvas in Black color:

mceclip8.png

4. Here, we can use the Toggle All: Off button, to toggle off all variants of this brand and color, OR use the individual toggles next to a specific variant to toggle it Off/On.

mceclip9.png

5. Here we will use the Toggle All: Off button to disable all black Bella + Canvas T-Shirts. This means that all of these variants will not be available on the product page for your buyers.

mceclip10.png

6. By using the different filters, you can fine tune your offering to a specific brand, size, color, print placement.
