If you are an Artist or a Photographers you’ll want to review this guide in depth to make sure you understand how to create an Art Print Store and sell your prints via the Art Print Store. This article will not focus on anything other than the steps you need to take to set-up your Art Print Store as an Artist/Photographer who has chosen to Self-Fulfill Prints.

If you find you’re having trouble understanding or completing any of the tasks below, please feel free to e-mail cs@artstorefronts.com and one of our Technical Support Agents will reach out to you as soon as possible.

Before you start working, you should learn about what file types are allowed on the ASF platform and how they’re displayed on the website.

Once you understand how to organize your Art Print Store in the best way possible and what file types are allowed, you’ll want to also understand how sizes are going to be calculated for your images.

This is going to vary between Self-Fulfilling Artists/Galleries and Artists using Automated Fulfillment. Fortunately, Art Storefronts has an article that will explain how sizes are calculated for those who Self-Fulfill and those who use Automated Fulfillment.

Now that you understand the Art Print Store and the information contained therein you can start working on your Art Print Store.

By default, your website should already have an Art Print Store created. If for some reason, you don’t have an Art Print Store, you’ll want to create one.

After making sure you have an Art Print Store you’re going to want to start creating folders in it (as suggested by the previously mentioned article regarding organizing your Art Print Store) and uploading images into those folders.

AS an aside, you also can reorganize your folders in the Art Print Store if you find they do not meet your needs. You can also edit those folders to add lead or ending content if you want to further personalize your site.

When you’re happy with the images you’ve uploaded, Art Storefronts allows you to go in and customize them even further. Each image uploaded in an Art Print Store allows you the ability to add things like Artist names as well as SEO information.

If you’re an Artist using Automated Fulfillment, you may find that your image isn’t offering the sizes you want because you uploaded a low-res image. Not to worry! You can always replace those images!

After you’ve uploaded your images, and you’re a Self-Fulfilling Artist, you’ll want to start creating your Custom Media types, such as papers, canvases, and metals, so you can offer different medias for the Art you have uploaded onto your website.

Please Note: If you are an Artist using Automated Fulfillment you will have a tab labeled Media, but this only allows you to turn specific media types (inherited from your Fulfillment Vendor) to on or off. You will not be able to create or delete media types.

Once media types have been created (for Self-Fulfilling Artists) or they have been turned on/off (for Artists using Automated Fulfillment) you can start working on pricing!

For Self-Fulfilling Artists, you have a couple of different options and strategies you can use. The first is Fixed Pricing which allows you to set a dollar amount for specific sizes on a media by media basis. The second is Smart Pricing. This allows you to calculate prices by the square foot per media type. In conjunction with those two option you can also set up tiered pricing. Tiered pricing is used when you have similar media types but some are greater quality than others and need to be offered at a different price point.

For those who are using Automated Fulfillment you’ll need to set mark-ups. Basically, your Fulfillment Vendor will have base prices that they charge you and then you’ll be able to go in and set-mark-ups on those base prices so you can make a profit.

The next logical step in an Art Print Store is going to be setting up Frames. For Self-Fulfilling Artists, you can create your own custom frames for use on your website. We have several articles on creating standard frames, floater frames and frames with mats and how to offer multiple mat colours.

Please Note: If you are an Artist using Automated Fulfillment, you will not have access to a tab labeled Framing. Instead, these options will be inherited from your Fulfillment Vendor. You will not have control over whether frames are offered and you will not have the ability to turn them on or off.

By now, you’re in the home stretch of having your Art Print Store created. The next step our Self-Fulfilling Artists need to take is setting up their Style Finishes. It’s imperative that you offer Style Finishes or people may not be able to check out on your website.

Please Note: If you are an Artist using Automated Fulfillment you will not have access to the Styles tab. The Styles offered on your website will be dictated by your Fulfillment Vendor and you will not have the ability to turn them on or off.

The last step our Self-Fulfilling Artists need to take (which is optional) is setting up Print Options. These are generally used for things like red-eye removal, image enhancement or the rushing of a print.

Please Note: If you are an Artist using Automated Fulfillment, you won’t have control over print options. Your Fulfillment Vendor will have complete control over these options. You will not be able to turn them on or off.

What are my next steps?

Once you’ve completed all the above steps your Art Print Store should be complete and ready to go. From here, we strongly suggest you take a look at [Master Article] [For All Artists and Galleries] How To: Set Up your Home Page using Keywords as Categories because this is the next step in getting your website closer to being ready to go live. Plus, this is a best practice that we recommend for all our Artists and Galleries!
